Could the Leafs miss the playoffs?

To a certain extent I don't blame Berube, he coaches a certain style and got a bag from the Leafs to do it. If I was him I'd probably accept the job too

It's puzzling why Treliving hired him. You need a coach to match the personnel, and it's clear they want to keep the core 4 so why not get a coach who works with them

In his eyes it’s just doing something different and adding a coach who’s won the Cup before, judging by all the moves he’s made he doesn’t really think of things in a critical way.

I think you missed the point. The personnel might not be good enough to win a cup either way, but they’ve been a good regular season team with strong possession numbers before under Keefe. Berube has made them worse by taking away their rush offense.
Well, then to be fair,at minimum you’d have to give this coach a playoff run opportunity before definitely saying.
Keeping in mind that the furthest they’ve reached with previous coaches is 5 of the 16 wins it takes to win the cup.

Only in Toronto do nhl lovers like this make a career out being miserable hahaha

I genuinely don’t give a half a shit about any analysis of the rest of the regular season re: the leafs.

It’s all about the playoffs. Has been since game 1. I think they’re gonna shit the bed…again :(

I also think that if the leafs went 16-0 on the way into the playoffs he’d be saying:

“Who cares? It’s all about the playoffs”

Berube doesn't work for this team and the underlying numbers clearly show this. For all their flaws they should not be #27 in xGF% since December 1

Berube's strategies are all wrong for this roster and he appears to be unable to adapt accordingly.

They are out in the first round and then finally there will be major changes this summer.

Wouldn't bet on it. I expect Marner to re-sign to a 4yr 13.25AAV contract this summer and Tavares as well. Probably along the lines to a 3yr 7AAV deal. Afterwards they'll just reshuffle the deck chairs.

Marner will be run out of town. The core is rotten. Changes coming

With the recent slide and teams making up ground is it possible? Steve Dangle breaks it down and shows how history could be repeating itself during this latest slide. I don't think they will slide that much and Ottawa will probably slow down, but what can even be done?

Math says yes. But Logic says no.

16 games left with a 10 pts cushion on Montreal

Using an extrapolation of the last 10 games for both teams

TO 5-4-1= 11
Mon 7-1-2 =16

If both keep that pace? TO has 92pts and Montreal would have 87--so even if TO blows their last 2 games and Montreal wins their last 2--they come up 1 pt short

And that is even before we talk about the fact the leafs are not in a WC spot but 3rd in the Atlantic.

missing the playoffs is next to impossible

They're not very good, though. Berube doesn't work for this team and the underlying numbers clearly show this. For all their flaws they should not be #27 in xGF% since December 1
Almost like there's a flaw in the core group of players

They haven't clinched yet, so it is possible. Not very probable, but until a team clinches there is a possibility for every team.

I highly doubt it; it would take a colossal tailspin while Ottawa and two other teams effectively go on .800 winning percentage runs.

That's beside the point. The flaw with these players is their inability to do well in the playoffs, not the regular season

The Leafs are attempting to mix oil and water and it's working out like you'd expect it to

Ehh could it be that they, for the first time since they were on their ELCs, have a coach that's attempting to teach them how to be prepared for playoff hockey. And it is indeed going like expected

Realistically we won’t be missing, the team isn’t going to win like 3 of their next 17 and Ottawa + rangers + another team aren’t going to jump them in the standings with how little left

Will we do anything of importance/noise? Let’s just stick to talking about us making playoffs for the 9th year in a row.
