I'm not saying this current version of Ovechkin is worth $11M, because he's not, but it only takes two teams to overpay him - one team to make a high offer and another to beat that offer. Someone will give him that kind of money and I don't even have to worry that the leafs will, because they just can't.

McDavid should be the target when JT's contract is up. Ideally we sign McDavid resign JT as 3c with a cap hit reflecting that and we end up trading willy or mitch for a package centered around a younger player with good upside. This is best case but a man can dream.

I know cap space is a problem, but moving Marner would open a lot of things up. If OV's goal is to win more cups and pass Gretzky, what better place to do it than in the center of the hockey world? Age be damned, he's still a prime player. Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, Ovechkin, and the rest would be a contender for the next 5 years easily.

It would be beneficial to OV, Toronto fans, but also MLSE because it would be a huge marketing opportunity for them.

I think he would have a much better shot to win another cup in Toronto than Washington, in addition to finishing up that record.

One step closer to the HHOF...
Such a bad take. I'd love to have him but you don't trade a 23 year old for a 36 year old.

I think the equivalent of a Justin Williams (now retired) could have a bigger positive impact on the culture of a team than a late stage Ovechkin, whose Capitals are back in the underachieving dumps after their cup run. Ovi is definitely a GOAT level player but if your team is on the young Washington Capitals development curve an old sniper might not be the best high IQ GM option.

I only made it to page 3 as some of the comments are kinda ridiculous and not sure if trolling or serious....

Ovechkin is obviously still a very effective player but trading Marner to make room for a 36 year old Ovechkin is just ludicrous. Also no way in hell Avs trade Makar for Marner lmfao. Put down the video games.

In all seriousness though.

Why would Toronto trade an incredible play maker, one of the best playmakers in the league... And then replace him with another goal scorer.

One of the reasons Matthews is able to rip so many goals in the net, is because of Marner. Removing Marner, replacing with Ovechkin makes zero sense.

I'm all for the Leafs signing another 10M+ forward. Do it, Dubie, please!
