Proposal: Could a McDavid Lindros type of trade help the Oilers?

McDavid would never request a trade, despite all the hopefuls daydreaming for it to happen. He's one of the most humble, professional, passionate and loyal players I've ever seen.
He's the type of guy that wants to be part of the solution, and represent the franchise he's committed to.

Eric Lindros was a POS. No other 1st overall pick (or any pick for that matter) has even come close to the debacle he created by being a selfish brat, insulting an entire city/province and refusing to play for the team that drafted him. That's disgusting. Karma hit him pretty hard, and fairly. To compare his character to McDavid's is a joke.

Edmonton is the 4th youngest team in the NHL, despite having seven 30+ players. Take 4 of those vets out, and they are the youngest team in the league.
They'll get better, it's inevitable. They just to need to grow together, and experience all the highs and lows.
Tampa, Winnipeg, and Nashville are all shining examples of staying the course, they were all mediocre and/or non-playoff teams for years, now they are the best teams in the league, with nearly the same roster as back then.
Keep the core, let them grow, patience, and develop

Who is the Core in your opinion? It's shrinking for me every year. I'd never deal Nurse before but I'd consider it now for the right player.

1. Wrong.

2. Wrong.

3. Wrong, at least, since Keith got here.

4. RNH, Hall, Draisaitl, Nurse, McDavid are limited success?
1. Drai returns a similar player but his contract limits his value. He is not worth $8.5 yet. This trade doesn't help the oilers. How are they going to fix the depth and the back end internally? They can't without trading McDavid.

2. The Oilers can't draft.....fact. How many players drafted outside of the first round have had success in the NHL in the last decade? Slepyshev played 102 NHL games. Khaira is doing OK. Reider 339 games- 27 games with Oilers. They haven't had an impact player drafted out of the first since Petry in 2006 and you let him walk for nothing. Remember the puck moving dman the Oilers need so bad?Jarret Stoll in 2002 and Matt Greene are the next ones. That is why the oilers can't draft. These are facts. I am not making this up.

3. see above. OOOOHHHH, Keith, ay? Lets see some players graduate before bragging about draft picks. The oilers have only graduated Khaira since 2012 outside of the first round. This isn't good drafting. i don't know why you can't see that.

4. Anyone team could have made success by picking that high for a decade. I wasn't talking about the top 5 picks (7 in Nurse's case). I am talking about depth drafting. Asset management in Edmonton is plain awful.

Respectfully I have to disagree with you. The Oilers should be able to fix the gaping holes in their line up without trading the best player in the world. I think it begins with a legit NHL GM.

The problem with making a Lindros type trade is capspace. To take on that much talent back for McDavid would prove either impossible or incredibly risky. (Draft picls, prospects for top notch player)

Its also disengeneous to claim Chia messed up the team with trades... As I recall, the trades were well received at the time they were made. Hindsight makes everyone seem smarter I guess.

I think there'd almost have to be a 3rd team involved in a trade like that were one to happen these days...like, an innocent bystander that eats a huge extra contract from Edmonton (like Lucic) and gets a 1st or something else nice along the way, while maybe sending out a minor resource like a 3rd of decent prospect to pad the offer.

The mess up's were

Hall for Larsson - Larsson is a good piece, but we lost hard on value. Oilers fans were saying that the day it happened.
Signing Lucic - Fanbase was split.
Signing Sekera - necessary at the time, everyone liked it, and he would still be worth having if he didn't destroy his lower half.
Signing Russell - lots liked the signing, nobody liked the cap hit.
and tons of minor deals, a few worked (Kassian for nothing), more haven't (Manning and Spooner).

The Bruins or Flyers could smoke that deal if they really wanted.

Pastrnak
McAvoy
DeBrusk
Rask

is better than that CLB offer.
Personally I wouldn't trade Pastrnak AND McAvoy for McDavid, let alone add in the #1 goalie.

I'm not saying he's NOT worth it. I just don't see the Bruins being in a good position making a trade like that.
