Rempe at best has no value, so you might as well just scratch him off the list. If Utah were to acquire him they'd do what the Rangers should do with him, which is waive him and send him to the ECHL.
Reilly Smith and Jack McBain are scoring at approximately the same rate this year... but McBain is 24 and being paid $1.6M/year, and when it expires at the end of the season he'll be an RFA. By contrast, Smith is 33, being paid $5M/year, and is a UFA at the end of the season.
So just considering McBain for Smith, it's not clear (1) why they'd want Smith over McBain, or (2) why they'd want Smith at all, given that Utah isn't going to be making the playoffs and so adding forward depth for them isn't a priority.
That leaves Zibanejad for Schmaltz. Schmaltz is currently out-scoring Zibanejad, he's 28 (compared to Zibanejad's 21), and he's being paid $5.9M (compared to Zibanejad's $8.5). And Zibanejad has 5 more years on his contract.
Granted, Zibanejad is still a superior player and I have every reason to think he'll bounce back
some compared to his current form... for now. But even if he does, why would Utah want his contract for what is, at best, a marginal upgrade... in a season where they're not competing anyway?
And you want Kerfoot
too? Kerfoot isn't anything special, mind you, but...
So...
To take Zibanejad, Utah is going to want at least an
unprotected 1st.
To take Smith, Utah is going to want a 2nd.
Rempe is a neutral asset.
To give Schmaltz, Utah is going to want a 1st, or maybe something like a 2nd and a 3rd.
To give McBain, Utah is going to
want a 1st (at least).
To give Kerfoot, Utah is going to want a 3rd (?).
So that comes out to 3 1st round picks, a 2nd, and a 3rd? At least?
