Thats basically just triage. The thing is, triage is a field practice not something youd expect in an ER. Shows how overwhelmed they are.

Its essentially what first responders do when get to the scene of a MCI (mass casualty incident). Green, yellow, red and black tags. What is assigned to you determines your level of care and priority.

It's the only way to achieve a more favorable result when resources/treatments are less than the affected number of people.

I feel terrible for those doctors that have to make those decisions because it stays with you and haunts you for the rest of your life. You dont forget those faces.

Folks, this is insanity, look at the tone change in 2 days in this thread. I just read the first posts. Holy shit. At first, we had jokes and now it's the apocalypse.
The athletes and celebs getting sick changed the game.

Not because of their fame but because we realized how many people are actually sick when everyone in a given population has access to tests, as famous people do.

where are they getting these number from those when, not only has an extremely small % of people been tested but mainly only people with symptoms are being tested...you can't just extrapolate those numbers across the board and assume that the same % of people with no symptoms have it??

Because testing is still limited. Tests may be available but you can't walk into your local clinic and get a test. I'm guessing they are basing it on how contagious the virus is, how few people have been tested and how long we have had silent carriers walking around the country.

Dr. Fauci said testing should be available at local clinics by Monday, which is way too late. The entire handling of this virus went from really well early on to an enormous cluster f***. You're going to see an explosion of cases within the next 5 days.

yeah testing is very limited, they don't have enough test for people with symptoms no less testing people without symptoms to get a more accurate picture...i'm sure they are looking at other factors but it just feels like the margin of error (in either direction) would be huge at this point.

Well, I don't see what Mike DeWine gains from making that statement unless there is some certainty.

What he could get is that more people may voluntarily self quarantine themselves, even without symptoms. That's about it.

The best thing we all can do, regardless of being infected or not, is to stay home and limit contact with others. You don't want to shut down, but the alternative to those things can be staggering.

Wednesday night was the turning point. The NBA shutting down followed by Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announcing they tested positive set everything in motion.

I fully expect the next update in a month or so will be that leagues are cancelling seasons altogether. This isn’t going away in a couple weeks.

European leagues today are starting to announce outright cancellations of the remainder of their seasons. We’ll be next

Anyone old enough to remember the vibe during the 2009 swine flu? I was in college and don't recall any day-to-day impact. Are the situations even comparable?

the reaction was nothing like this...but the other way of looking at it is how much worse did that end up being people people didn't overreact?

Folks, I have a date today at a Shuffleboard place and I'm thinking of cancelling, she seems to want to go. I don't think I have symptoms, but who knows at this point. I really mentally need to do something other than think of the Coronavirus, would it be irresponsible of me to go on the date?
