Finland, then? Can you elaborate on Finland? I haven't heard much news about it, but I thought you might have some information on them.

It's not an option. We're hosts in 2022. New arena in Tampere is far from finished plus the whole organization takes far longer than couple of months. There won't be a relocation, period.

I think one of the overlooked challenges with a potential relocation is the lack of venues. Sochi is one of the few cities that have arenas of sufficient quality that aren't that busy.

Ah, that's good, then, because, by 2022, we will have found a vaccine for this virus.

Even if the Swiss are able to control it who exactly is going to go over to Switzerland to play? The chances of a physically fit hockey player dying from the Coronavirus are low I'd think

Even the chance of infection is small, if you follow the rules. And many even don't get sick. I don't think it's a risk for any of the sportsmen. The virus is mainly a danger for older people and those who are already sick and have a weak immune system.

You never know. We've had athletes with weak immune systems and diseases.

It doesn't prevent you from catching (and not having any symptoms) and spreading the virus.

Will be interesting to see what happens at the World Championships in Switzerland.

They are going to reevaluate the situation on March 15th with a final decision made on March 31st.

The guys I know that are part of the team GB support staff have been informed to hold off booking flights until further notice

Reschedule in September and watch all the big guns play. Is that a possibilty?
It would have to be August, before the european leagues start their seasons. We do have a couple of August tournaments in juniors. They look like a starving man's meal. You take them as a desperate hockey fan in summer, but you understand the level of play is pure shite.

I haven't seen anyone suggest that.

I am getting it from the guys who are associated with team GB. A decision on what will happen will be made by March 15th.

The problem is all games up to 2025 have been awarded and they are trying to figure out where slot the Switzerland back in

I put in BY as the decision could come sooner. Right now it looks like they are trying to move it but that makes things harder for some countries and arenas that they need to use.

My guess it gets cancelled and the Swiss get the 2026 games or something

That's when Switzerland decides if they'll continue to ban public events. The IIHF won't make a final decision until April 20th. That is from IIHF vice secretary Kummola.

Women's Team Finland GM Tuula Puputti said that this cancellation is going to mess up the international calendar, re: Olympic qualification.

I am being told the IIHF will make a decision by the 15th of March.

Games in group A and B are played starting 27th if April in Slovenia and Poland with Division II games played in Croatia starting the the 19th April.

There is a knock on affect where there is more at play then just the WC on Switzerland

I think the whole calendar could be moved by a year and that in itself will cause trouble

Nothing I've seen has said the decision will be made in March. It's next month for the top level WHC. Lower divisions decision will be made earlier though.

Kummola said in the previous article I linked the following:

– Sovimme viime maanantain puhelinkokouksessa, että päätöksen deadline on 20. huhtikuuta, jos mitään ihmeellistä ei tapahdu ennen sitä. Toivottavasti silloin tehdään positiivisia päätöksiä, Kummola lopetti

"We (IIHF) agreed on Mondays phone conference that the deadline for the decision is April 20th, if nothing exceptional happens before that. Hopefully will make positive decisions then."

I am just going off of what the support guys from team GB are telling me, While the games do start till the 8th of May. Teams start gathering and practice the 2nd week of april with friendly games being played shortly there afterwards. Canada have 2 or 3 games schedules with on being in Nottingham on the 5th of May.

Personally I think that waiting till the 20th is cutting it too short considering other division games started on the 19th of April. It is the knock on affect of what is going on
