I imagine he retires after this. He's had a great run.
He said he’s playing next season

Why would Perry want to sign here.
He wants to play on a real contender.
The problem is, we seem to end up acquiring this type when they're starting to wear down and have already won the big prize.
We need to find the next Bennett, someone that is currently undervalued and hungry.
Apparently he wanted to sign with the Leafs a few yrs back but Dubas didn’t.Why would Perry want to sign here.
He wants to play on a real contender. That's not the Toronto Maple Leafs. I'm sick of them bringing in all these washed up vets like Perry anyway.
It worked so well with Marleau, Thornton, Spezza, and Giordano.
At some point the plan shifted from youth movement to senior's gathering. A result of the Leafs well thought out cap structure. Left hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with declining vets whose stats are lowering.
Grasping for bygone glory.
Tying the dead corpse of the past mouth-to-mouth with the living present. Praying someone with a recognizable name will pay off if they throw money at him. Rewarded for achievements on teams not named the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Just sign on the dotted line and sail into retirement as you stink up the ice.

I wasn’t saying that. I was saying either we win the cup or we don’t. And making the finals and losing isn’t some grand accomplishment imo. The premise of the thread is we go to the finals and lose.He won in Ana.
I am not quite as militant with the win or the season is a failure stance. I would love to see the Leafs make a finals once in my life. Of courae I would rather see them win it, but if they made the finals next year I would be pretty happyI wasn’t saying that. I was saying either we win the cup or we don’t. I'm with you, going to the Finals would be a great accomplishment after repeated years of disappointment.I am not quite as militant with the win or the season is a failure stance. Losing in the first round for 7 of the last 8 yearsWhat would be worse, losing in the first round again or making it all the way to the cup finals and losing in game 7 in a 1 goal game?
Do you sign him if it guarantees we lose in the finals?
Our 3rd line can be Perry, Marchand and Patches
They were both free agents at the same time. The Leafs chose Simmonds in 2020. In 2021 they had another shot but they already had Simmer. Simmonds was more a tough guy than a rat so that may have been the decider.I think the reporting was they had already signed Simmonds so it’s not that they didn’t necessarily want Perry but moreso perhaps that the role was already filled and they couldn’t put more cap against it
Should have signed 3 yrs ago but yes sign himJust sign the man.
I wouldn't go after Perry, personally. Why would anyone want them to sign someone who guarantees they lose?
I'd rather they take a chance on a question mark. Maybe they still don't get past the second round. Or maybe they win the damn cup.
Signing a washed up impotent old man like Perry just to get past the second round sounds like an act of desperation.
Like they want to teach these guys what it tastes like to go far in the playoffs. So they bring in a player who guarantees a finals appearance. But one who also guarantees a loss to go with it.
That's a loser mentality if I ever heard one.
You don't play to win. You play to not lose. Winning is a byproduct of not losing.
There's no point in even playing if you know you're guaranteed to lose.
