did you watch him for like... 4 seasons?

9 points in 27 games. That’s the game changer we need ...
If Perry can give the leafs what he gave the stars in the playoffs, I would love to have him with the leafs. If he can’t, we can leave him on the taxi squad. I really hope both the leafs and Corey Perry are considering this possibility

I would take Perry over Thornton. I liked his game in the playoffs for the Stars.

But what we have is empty spots on our taxi squad...

At a certain point, you're only burying your own players and hindering development not giving them a chance. I dont think Perry is still good enough to take a spot from someone with a future here. And that's not even mentioning his character.

I can't imagine his only option is our taxi squad. He should get a better offer somewhere. Before Jumbo Joe signed he might have had a shot at the opening night roster, but not now with how packed our team is.

If he is out of options, and he's willing, then of course. Why wouldn't we bring in the best players we can for this meat grinder of a season. I just don't think he would really consider it from his perspective.

Hypothetical

Simmonds or Perry??

Player vs Player.
Simmonds, if he is healthy again would be the better player IMO.
Last years Simmonds vs Perry, I would take Perry for his dickishness alone. Playing the same team 8-10 times, he would be a great 'thorn' player.

Simmonds at 1.5m vs Perry at... League min? 1m? Im leaning towards Perry.
That extra 500k would have gone a long way in being able to get a better 3rd pair guy than Bogosian @1m (Hamonic?)

I.e. Perry and Hamonic vs Simmonds and Bogosian at the same total cap.
I take P+H, and have a better back end and comparable up front.

This season isn't about development, this a short condensed season with A LOT of back to back and 3 games in 4 nights this will likely lead to increased injury, I don't want some Marlie with no experience filling in for injury not this year.

No Nick Robertson isn't included in that because I think Robertson has a chance to make the roster he's different.

I'd take Perry over Adam Brooks or a Veteran D over Calle Rosen.

This year isn't about development it's about getting as much depth as possible

Corry Perry grew up as a huge Leaf fan he would jump at the chance to be a Leaf. He would not sign to sit but play. Put him with Jumbo Joe on the 3 line and second pp unit and he would have a great season. We could afford him at 1m. He will likely get more somewhere else.

If we can sign him it would be a huge boast to our roster. Mean and plays for keeps.

Naw Spezza has been way to valuable for the bottom 6 last year. Provided secondary scoring, and some valuable leadership.

Dump engvall if anything. Spezza, jumbo Joe, Simmonds, Perry, Barbanov/Robertson/Vesey, and Kerfoot is a solid bottom 6.
That works too. I have no issue with Spezza I just find he and Thornton a bit redundant.

Maybe a pto instead?
The guys is a southern Ontario guy who grew up cheering for the leafs who is now at the end of his career. Maybe he wants to see if he can make the team without committing to the taxi squad?
Gotta think it’s becoming a realistic possibility with training camp just around the corner. The leafs taxi squad players will probably feel like they are more a part of the NHL than senator roster players.
