Binnington wasn't triggered. It was a deliberate retaliation. This isn't a hot head being goaded, this is a player who thinks his opponent crossed the line and didn't even get the benefit of support so he's pushing back to send a message. Since the playoffs are starting soon, this is both a message and a possible attempt to injure before the playoffs.
