Corey Perry Skates Into Binnington's Neck, Binnington Punches Perry in the Back of the Head

Perry being Perry but the puck was loose. Crash and bang. Play until the whistle. Loved it.
I think people are overreacting on all fronts. Perry was trying to collect a lose puck. He's made a career about going to hard places chasing pucks and very often paying a price when the other team reacts.

His skates were on the ice. Plays like this happen pretty regularly - players fall (sometimes on each other) and skates are everywhere. It is actually pretty remarkable that more players aren't injured by skates - but they aren't (probably due to equipment).

And for Binnington - good on him. If guys are charging full speed into the creese, then I have no problem with a goalie reacting this way. You can quibble about the punch from behind, but in this case it was an immediate reaction by Binnington, so I'm fine with it.

Link to the full video below. Shows the contact better on replay.

One other thing I noticed. Binnington lost his stick on the original play. He seems to look for it for a split second, can't find it, and then decides the second best option is to hit Perry. LOL

For what exactly?
Did he even make a contact? If there was head contact Binnignton wouldn't even be allowed to keep playing.

Blues fans here are talking as if Perry stepped on Binningtons head or neck.
He just went into the crease area and almost scored. Moved right out of the crease a second later only to be mauled from behind.

Really? Did he even make contact? Either you are blind, or you refuse to acknowledge what the video shows. And to answer your question, YES, he made contact with Binnington.

Thanks for the vid. In case the headshot wasn’t enough to rattle him the stick follow up was extra insurance. This was a shit play. Perry got the power play he was trying to get but he needs to sit a game or two if the NHL still wants to have the image of protecting heads.

Yes he easily made contact. One of the replays shows it clearly. He didnt kick or anything but he did hit binnys mask with his lower leg actually, didnt look like the skate, as he skated towards binny then also hits binnys arm dislodging binnys stick. Binnys then covers his head for a second with his blocker til the crkwd moves before getting up, almost looks like he looks for his stick for a split second before instead deciding to punch perry.

Looked like Perry gave him some stick too when he was down after the legs to the head.

He knew what he was doing.

Him being knocked out would have been nice karma.

Hey hockey gods if ur listening, can these two teams meet int he playoffs please?

Gary would prefer we see LA-EDM for the 56th year in a row.

I completely agree. The league to needs to hand Perry the same suspension they handed Rantanen for injuring Stu Skinner with a headshot.

Dude has always been a POS. He is like Sam Bennett and manages to have a ton of "accidents" like these. I'll never believe he didn't hit Tavares like he did in 2021 on purpose.

Perry is just great at sending messages.

McDavid is tackled by Garland, Perry claims the NHL needs to protect its stars, league does nothing (as usual), and then Perry jumps Quinn Hughes since turnabout is fair play.

Skinner is kneed in the head by Rantanen, Perry claims the NHL needs to protect its goalies, league does nothing (as usual), and then Perry jams Binnington hard since turnabout is fair play

He knew what he was doing. Dirty players try to take liberties on goalies like that all the time. Even getting close to stepping on someone's neck with a skate is repulsive, and needs to be severely condemned.

After all of these years, it amazes me that people still would think Perry didn't do that on purpose. He 100% skated into Binnington's head and 100% on purpose. There's a bit of a track record.

Dirtbag on Dirtbag violence. Fun to watch, but nothing to get even remotely concerned about.

Perry went a little too close, sure, but this was hardly a concussion/sore neck causing incident. What Binnington did after is suspend-able IMO. Blocker to the back of the head could be very bad.

After all these years there's no way Perry deserves any benefit of the doubt ... but, the whistle hadn't blown yet & he was perfectly within the rules to drive to the net (as he does most every time he's on the ice). Binnington's reaction was also completely justified ... but, his extra tackle was the only action that put the Oilers on the PP once everything was sorted out.

A nice warm up for playoff intensity.
