He knew very well what he did and who he was, and I'd like to think teams can win without those .......... plays.
Atleast the Finns won.

That's brutal play and I don't understand the defending of it, with a worse luck his offseason could have been in danger, and Laine badly needs a healthy offseason.

Does Laine have injury problems? Because if he does and that hit significantly injured him, then he's going to have a rough time in the NHL.

Just intangibles from a proven winner and a good Ontario boy.
Seriously, not some huge Letang cheapshot or anything.

That's (NHL vet) Captain going after undrafted prospect for no reason.

Going after? You make it sound like he was head hunting, or started throwing punches on an unaware player. Perry was probably trying to get a response. To get Laine off his game a little.

I'm not defending the play. It was a cheap little play from Perry. I'm saying people are overreacting. Calling it a slew foot? Breaking his knees? And what does Laine's age have to do with anything? If Laine had an opportunity to lay a hit on him, should he avoid it because he might injure the old man?

I was listening to the game at work and expected something malicious, because Ray Ferraro made it sound like the crime of the century....came home to watch as I DVR'd and thought, ..that's it?
Sojourn put it best in his last post...cheap little play from Perry, but just a pest move more than anything...certainly not intent to injure.

Ducks not winning the cup in recent years despite having a good team is karma for having Perry and Kessler on the team.

I hope Perry is suspended for the rest of the tournament and the World Cup.

I love it how you are defending it and giving brutal examples,
What's the difference between a normal hockey hit and pathetic play like that towards undrafted prospect by your teams Captain?
I guess nothing then.

Yes that's going after an undrafted player. You could see he was in clear pain after his leg got twisted on that play, said couldn't put any pressure on that leg for a moment and said he took painkillers and continued playing.

You saw that from the 1st shift that they focused on him, they knew exactly who he was and what they were doing but he just laughed at them.
I didn't mind the talking at all, but your Captain doing a brutal play like that for a guy who just turned 18y is so pathetic, I'd be embarrassed at that point.
Showed the leadership level and IQ level of Perry.

Even Ray called that garbage play.

Why Laine did not fight with Perry if it was so dirty? I think that scouts would have love that!

Perry knew exactly what he was doing. Age matters because Perry's actions could have resulted in a career ending injury for a player who hasn't even been drafted. I wonder what Perry's conscience would have been like then, who am I kidding he wouldn't have cared. Perry brought a stain upon the maple leaf on his jersey today

It was just Perry being Perry. He was trying to 'accidentally' run into him but the outcome was a bit more serious than intended. Nothing to see here.

I love the way all NA players are giving it to Laine and he just shakes it off with a little push back here and there. Good for the young man.

Career ending. Right. Maybe they should fit Laine with some bubble wrap, or just keep him off the ice entirely. He could get hurt.

Not taking retaliation for that, the Finnish team certainly used the best option they had. Just bite the bullet, stay out of the penalty box and PK, and eventually win. Nice.

Pretty sad that the only significant thing we accomplished was that particular cheap play. Forgettable game all round....

I guess you've never had knee injuries and have never seen the affects they can have on your game.

We hockey fans should take the same approach as Laine.

Bit dirty. Happened because he's a decent hockey player. Now, lets take some painkillers and move on.

I like how our team didn't get in with the antics and instead kept playing the game and ultimately beat the best team in this tournament 4 - 0.

Didn't like that play. Now let's set it behind us and move on.
