A couple of factors I find:
-During the WCQ, they were hungry and underdogs/upcoming. And Herdman fed perfectly into that mentality. They don't seem as hungry now.
-Teams are now aware Canada can play to a certain level. They prepare accordingly.
-Our best players level has somewhat stagnated. Especially Davies.
-Coaching transition and lack of friendlies.

Seph, this take is way off. As much as it pains me to say, USA's A team is better than Chile's A team. If USA were in CONMEBOL, I would only put Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia ahead of them. And it would be very close with Colombia.
