Then—the option to choose when time is involved—fits in the phrases just then and back then, and after words like since and until. It's also in the phrases and then some, every now and then, and even then
Exactly. Both work. It depends if OP meant making the playoffs this year or next year.

I'd rather we lose big this year then barely make the playoffs (next year)

Hey OP, get a dictionary and learn the difference between then and than so you don’t write confusing thread titles.

Ya, I get it. That's what people want for sure.

Having said that, we are the 15th seed in the Eastern Conference. We'll need to climb 7 seeds to get to 8th (and wildcard). We need to string some wins together fairly soon. American Thanksgiving is in 20 days.

So is everybody. Water is wet.

The OP said he would RATHER be bad...I'm saying that I would rather we were not...

Yes, understood. I'm sure we all feel the same way.

I was just framing the situation.

I think the OP was really saying that IF we end up having a really bad year, then at least we could get a decent pick out of the equation. Saying we'd rather have a good season and make the playoffs seems rather obvious. Hard to believe any real Senators fan really wants to "tank".

Imagine tanking all year but ending up being out-tanked by truly bad teams and then having two teams pass us in the lottery and then we get 10th overall pick …

But in the context of this team this year, im not even sure what it means to tank. How exactly would you propose to do that? That’s only an option when it’s an option and its not an option anymore.

But I get it, it’s a scary start to an over-hyped summer. We snapped our fingers expecting a contender out of the gate and now the disappointment of having to work hard to develop into that team doesn’t seem part of the plan. Easier to wish we lose for shiny baubles than to risk cheering for success and facing disappointment.

But what makes you think we will be disappointed this year? I see lots of room for growth. The idea is to develop and end up in the playoffs. I think resilience is part of this team’s identity. I’m still expecting good things. Cheering for losing is not part of the fan toolkit at this stage of the team’s development anymore. They were good times. But when we lose now – i am mad. But still patient. The process continues. Quite a way to the finish line yet.

Wow imagine taking the time out of your day to make a post like this on a hockey forum …

If we are in a position to get one of Michkov, Fantilli, Bedard or Carlsson go for it but if not we trade that 1st round pick for a top 4 D-men. One that can complement Chabot's playstyle.

Chabot -Top 4 D-men
Sanderson -Zub

Keep playing Chabot 25+ minutes a night, promote Zaitsev to Chabot's permanent partner. Never play Sanderson more than 17 minutes a game, give Holden and Hamonic more ice time outside of the PK, bench Brannstrom a few games.

Ridiculous stuff like that might get er done

Couldn't disagree more. Failing to make playoffs would be disasterous to the lockeroom's morale.
The core leadership in Brady and Chabot need to see progress.

Been there, done that.

even stumbling into the playoffs this year would be a great success IMO.

Also, I would like to be vindicated that the playoffs are where Brady is going to shine, so we need him to get there now and get used to it.

Both are NOT Correct…. As the poster is clearly talking this season, and the playoffs in 2023.

I can't believe this team made me a tanker. I would have never considered it a few years ago, it is for losers but we have been losers for a while now.

If we're going to be bad, might as well get another top-10 pick

But there's a chance we turn things around. Not sure how long we should be holding on to hope that we'll turn our season around? Christmas?

A playoffs spot is a playoffs spot

Ask St Louis Blues 2018-9

You never Know

dorions best move in this summer was not move our first round pick :d..

anyway its not bad team, just need a time, and good coach. :)...

Well OP you won't have to worry about playoffs now. All aboard the tank train. Cheering for loses for a 6th straight season. What a joke of a franchise.

Yea I'm all in on tanking. Personally I have no desire to string together wins at the end of the year or be a middling team all season only to finish 2 spots out of a playoff race. Thats where I think this team is. Give us more talent that we can either trade or plug into the lineup.
