Probably not. People don't recognize just how far behind the AHL is from the NHL. Bickel is a very good AHLer, but he sucks in the NHL. Let's see how he performs, but let's not set our expectations too high.
 
Haven't seen him play so I'm going of people's opinions and my gut feeling.


Prediction: before the season is over he will be in our top 4 and he'll stay there. Especially if Girardi is traded.

Bickel is not a very good AHLer. It's noticeable that he is not nearly as competent a defender as Allen

He's significantly more polished than McI. The gap between 21 and 23 as a defenseman are huge...and Allen plays a much safer game than McI. McI has better tools, though, no question. That's not to undermine Allen, who I really like, just that McI is a lot more talented than people give him credit for.
 
And this is why my Pack game reports include players that nobody pays attention to.
 
He played a game that AV likes to see tonight. Great in transition, can carry the puck, he has sneaky skill. He played better than half the D roster. Hope he gets a few more games.
 
I really liked what I saw from him tonight - he exceeded my expectations.

Now before crazy HF Ranger fan posters come crashing in, I thought he played well and was actually noticeable in a good way in his first showing.
 
he played a very solid game... smooth and calm with the puck. absolutely impressed..

but nothing we didn't know from the preseason! :D
 
Agree that he played a pretty good game today. With Staal and Stralman hopefully back soon it will be interesting to see what Slats has planned (if anything) for the D corps
 
He deserves another game or two even if Staal and Stralman are ready.

You have allen and staal backwards.

Staal plays LD, Allen had played almost all RD since turning pro.
 
He was noticeable out there, and it was mostly all good.

I'm expecting him to stick around a few more games and hopefully that's the case, even with Staal and Stralman back in...

Poised, can carry the puck, went end to end and got off a tough shot, smart...
 
On Conor Allen, “he was one of our better Ds. He out played some of the other guys and deserved to be out there. He was poised with the puck, not afraid to take a hit to make a play. That is why he got that ice time.”


AV says it right here.. i bet one of the dman will be moved before january is over.
 
Absolutely does not look like a rookie playing his 1st NHL game. Color me impressed.

Looked exactly how he looked in preseason: calm, poised, and silky smooth. He already looks better than any dman on our roster sans McDonagh.

You've got a good eye for the game. Saw the same things you saw in him. Calm, composed, good athlete, good skater mentally sharp and focused.
 
Loved his skating ability. Also loved how eager he was to step in on the rush. Could take Falk's or DZ's spot.
 
For a guy playing his 1st NHL game he had a lot of confidence, that's what stood out the most.
