He's looked real good for Hartford lately and is putting up points.

Rangers need all the help they can get so I don't understand why people are arguing over him. Hopefully he provides some good juice and can help to energize and turn this mess around similar to what Mr. Girardi did back in 06-07.

I Agree that's what I remember...Calm with the puck for the probably 40 minutes he played in 3 games...If people aren't watching him in Hartford and have first hand knowledge of his play throwing out predictions is insane

Rangers played 6 preseason games. Allen played in 3. Against the Flyers, Oilers and Kings. He paired with Staal against the Oilers so I'm sure he got his share of ice time in that one. The pairs against the Kings were Moore/Stralman, Del Zotto/Bickel, Falk/Allen. Allen played the right side pretty much if I remember right throughout training camp and in those games. The Flyers had the likes of LeCavalier, Simmonds, Hartnell, Voracek and Coutourier in their lineup. The Oilers had the likes of Schultz, Hall, Hemsky, Eberle, and Perron in their lineup. The Kings pretty much had their full lineup with the exception of Justin Brown.

What I remember of Allen is he played very well. His positioning was good. He was calm with the puck--not a panicky type. Moved the puck well. His size is fine. Average physicality. He's had a good rookie year in Hartford.

More obvious that this call up is insurance in case Stralman and Staal can't go on Sunday than it means DZ is being traded--though DZ might be on the way out--Allen's coming up is to fill holes. With McIlrath out short term and I believe Bickel is out as well--the other options would have been Aaron Johnson who has extensive NHL experience but who is a left sider or Danny Syvret.

I'd be thrilled if we get that from him. Definitely a nice look

Not saying he'll ever be as good as Greene is now, but he plays a very similar style. Always mobile and moving his feet, smart, makes plays with the puck, very good skater. Not large, but he uses his smallish frame to his advantage, I'd say. I think he's ready to be a solid #6 at the NHL level - better than Falk or Moore.

Here's hoping he becomes the next Girardi.

Not nearly as good at shot blocking, but who knows how he develops. I doubt he'll be the next G, but if he can be a third pair defenseman who plays for a mere $900, that's a great addition to the team. It would also allow us to move someone like MDZ or Stralman for other assets.

I'd hope not honestly. Some puck-handling skills are much appreciated.

He has to play the style that suits him best, not whatever you want right now. If he develops well, maybe we can deal away MDZ+Moore for one good puck moving defenseman.

He's solid from what I've seen. Physically he's a weird cross between a McDonaugh and Mike Weaver if one were to look at his athletic build and skating ability. A focused and competitive defender and one that is alert and is a technically solid defender. He does give the Rangers luxury to make a trade or two.

Yea. It's tough to compare him to any other rangers players. Sauer may actually have been the closest.

I don't want to say he's ready till he gets a fair shake of games at more than a bit of minutes. Not saying I want him on for 23 mins a game, just not heavily sheltered ones. Falk is basically Bickel but slightly more effective. I like Moore, but he's kind of negative in consequence right now outside of hitting the net

Allen was our best defenseman during the preseason, should be good to see if, as we suspect, his skills translate well to the NHL, making this an easy adjustment ala McDonagh.

Falk is much, much better than Bickel.

Falk is a lot better skater but a faux tough guy. Bickel is a real tough guy but not nearly as good a skater. Falk fits better on an AV team. The odds between the two would be more even on a Torts team. Personally I'm not as anti-Bickel as a lot of others here. There's some value in my eyes to a player who makes other teams pay in blood and bruises for messing with his goaltender--just so long as he doesn't get caught out on the ice for an extended period of time or against really skilled players Bickel can be effective.

People have short memories about Bickel we almost came in first in the entire league with Stu playing most nights..So obviously he was good enough to play on a top team but the masses here never appreciated what he brought to the table every night..Junk yard dog mentality...It has been talked about here to death so I wont go there but his edge is sorely missed...Heart and soul guy but not flashy enough for the HF scouts

I'm sure Allen will have a decent game and people will start to pencil him into the top 4 with PP time.

That may very well happen with the injuries and issues they have had on D. I would think there's a very significant chance he starts next season as a top 4 guy

Well hopefully he pans out because that sounds like a bad idea right now

I'm not sure if you have seen him play or not?

I've watched him most home games on the pack. He was arguably their best player (Miller was IMO, their best player). He can skate, he can hit. He occasionally will fight. He plays well positionally. He has some offensive upside to his game. He's just pretty steady overall. Which is more than I can say about most of the rangers DMen

Patrick Rissmiller scored 20 goals in the AHL but he sucked as an NHLer.

I understand all that, but i wanna see him in the big league before giving him a definite spot on the defense. I have no opinion on him yet

Thats fair, I just think his game will translate well.

He's a great skater and is not small either at 6'3''.

He doesn't have to come in an be Bobby Orr. Be a piece. Play good defense and make a good outlet pass. Don't worry about the offense yet but if he has a lane, take a shot because it's good enough to beat AHL goalies.

All I'm looking for him to do is help and add some energy and smarts.

McIlrath's game will work in the NHL because he can skate and he plays a simple, smart game. Rissmiller? What the hell does he have to do with anything?
