Post-Game Talk: Connor Magic!

Such a solid post.

We all have biases. Eye tests confirm biases. Everyone can look up metrics, like you said, to confirm what you see is actually what is happening. “Did I see what I wanted to see to or what actually happened?” Is a question I ask myself a lot. These biases are also perpetuated by Edmonton media who seem to know very little of the sport and its evolution.

I have to wonder how these "accepted opinions" shared by the Edmonton media are formed and spread so quickly, and what role OEG itself plays in them being disseminated.

Also, you're wrong, @bobbythebrain thinks it's the worst take ever and I'll trust the guy who told us just yesterday that all the refs are totally unbiased against us and the calls will "even out."

Also, Bobby, word of advice...try to broaden your list of insults to include more than "bad take" or "worst take ever." Your responses are getting really repetitive. Listen less to to Edmonton hockey "experts" and try ingesting other forms of media. Read a book, perhaps?

I mean tbf he still deserves a lot of flack by putting so much faith into Skinner. That's literally putting a handicap on yourself going into every match. Even a blind person could see that Skinner wasn't gonna get the job done.
Bowman didn’t sign Skinner. That was JJ

Sorry, it's really hard to take you seriously enough to give you the reply you seek, especially to such a comical overly agro post, but lucky for you someone bothered to offer some actual analysis of the correlation. And I fully admit that I could not have explained it nearly as well as the the person quoted below:

Unfortunately you are trying to compare 2 separate things. It makes absolutely no sense to use this anecdote by @Drivesaitl . His breakdown of goalie transition is correct, but that's not where Bouchard has struggled...like.......at all.

The goalie is not responsible for some of Bouchards worst plays this year. Bad pinches or giving the puck away at center. Or giving up on chasing a player back.

Like in what universe do you blame the goalie for what's happening in the neutral zone .Like I said, your takes are pretty horrible when it comes to trying bashing Skinner.

We all know Skinners not that good, but you don't need to make s*** up. Be better. Do better

Skinner isn't to blame for all of his mistakes. No one would seriously believe that's the point I'm making here. But is Bouchard playing with increased confidence by knowing his mistakes won't be multiplied due to a higher likelihood of the puck going in, likely helping him play a cleaner game? Absolutely. Was he blamed far too often this season for Skinner letting in weak shots that should've been routine saves? Definitely. Isolating Bouchard's biggest gaffes over an 82-game sample size doesn't make those statements any less true.

Holland signed him, and the signing was fine at the time. Skinner was trending up, though not a sure thing, and the term and cap were hardly crippling. Bowman’s mistake was not shoring up the position via trade knowing that Skinner fell of dramatically (or had existing flaws exposed) well before the TDL.

By “no one” of course you must include the people that caused themselves permanent brain damage through the overuse of neon coloured hair dyes and their rabid communist compatriots.

So yeah, no one worth listening to.

Never understood why someone needs to dehumanize people of a different political stripe.

Woke up this morning, and thought: holy shit the Oilers played fast last night

If we can sustain this pace we are going to be tough to beat. Our puck movement was video game mode yesterday, and it neutralized their forecheck and transition. Hard to believe this is the same team we watched all year, they were definitely pacing themselves lol

100% completely different gear has been found in the playoffs. Best part is neither Leon or Connor have had to be transcendent for us to win. Which makes me think, as bizarre as it sounds, we could get even better.

It’s the Knoblauch effect. They’re defending Vegas so much better now.

This series will sneakily be a battle of coaches. Can Cassidy make the right adjustments? Can Knoblauch counter that? I’m hoping Knoblauch continues to pick apart Vegas, could be a quick series.

I wondered a bit about this. Especially after game 1. That the Oilers just unmasked the way the Knights have to play. On their home ice.

What was most striking though and I don't know how this happens the Knights were fighting pucks, having trouble making plays and passes and struggled with the ice and bouncing pucks. The Oilers were much better with the puck, making plays, shooting, faceoffs etc.

Credit to Stone, he played very well. he had few with him.

That said I think Knights have to be more agressive and expend more energy. After first they were really getting outplayed and outworked. They had to mount a better third period and really failed to. Would be a demoralizing way to lose on home ice and the Oilers had the crowd right out of it for two periods.

This just an aside but the Oilers won't be playing one round against another Canadian Club (or I doubt it) no matter how far they advance. So that playing against US teams so much easier to take their home fans out of the equation. This may as well have been a neutral rink last night. No pressure for the Oilers and no real animus from the crowd either. Vegas, what a strange and surreal place to play NHL hockey in. Still doesn't seem right.
It'll look like Pheonix as soon as the have to rebuild. No one there will watch them if they're bad.

Fire Stan Bowman!;)
I know you are kidding around, but I always give the same boring, mundane answer when one of these fire the coach/GM, did we win or lose trade deadline day, etc threads appear - I'll give you my answer when the Oilers have played their last game of the year. I get why the threads are created, usually out of frustration, but you can't give a rational answer until you have all of the information, in this case, being playoff performance, which for me is weighted more than anything else. So until the pleasantly plump gal has belched her last note, best to sit tight, enjoy the journey, and we'll have plenty of time for dissection at the appropriate time.
