I agree with this but I also think its fair to say that Pickard has been good enough. The Oilers basically don't lose when their goaltending is average. They just don't often get even that much.
Not to come off as a hater but Pickard really hasn't been very good either. Better than Skinner but that bar is on the floor.
I haven't heard too many people bring up this f***ery...
So, they scrubbed off another goal by Perry, made up a completely bullshit penalty to give us (even Louie was pissed about that one)...and we still beat these bitches in their own rink.

Did not realize a goofy apology form post for Bouch would turn into a convo on tribalism and opinion entrenchment on HF hahahaha
We all win some and we lose some on our takes on this board. Its all in the service of oilers getting the dub.
I think if the puck had crossed the goal line it would've counted. I could be wrong, but I thought that was a discretionary call by the refs, to decide whether the dislodged net impacted the goal or not.Yeah that pissed me off when I saw it.
At the very least plays like that (because its potentially removing a goal off the board) should be reviewable.
Not saying you're wrong but that stranger things have occurred and in a now 32 team NHL somebody would be willing to give it a go. This size of the fight in Pickard is bigger than he is in stature. Certain things about how much a fellow competes, overcomes, they can't be taught any other way except hardship.I'll just agree to disagree.
The only other precedent for anything similar to this is Michael Leighton and he was quickly in the American league the next fall. Hill rose from the ashes a bit, but he had a few years in the league behind him and upward trajectory as a younger goalie.
I just don't see a 33 year old undersized career minor leaguer as likely to be an every day starter in the NHL. He can definitely catch lightning in a bottle, but I just don't ever see him as consistent starting material. Or if he finds that level, it would pretty much be a first time ever occurrence.

I hear you.I think if the puck had crossed the goal line it would've counted. I could be wrong, but I thought that was a discretionary call by the refs, to decide whether the dislodged net impacted the goal or not.
Still should be a penalty though.
Yea I am looking wrong on his choices and when you have Kapanen and Skinner as your 13th 14th forwards with 1600 games between them pretty good GM for a playoff runWhat a clinic they have been putting on since GM 5. Keep this machine going
Connor Brown has been playing Conn Smythe like. Klingberg has been lights out. Bouchard was very steady last night .
Bowman took a lot of heat on these boards but all these moves he has made look great
Fire Stan Bowman!![]()

If you look at his metrics in the regular season- he only turned over 11% of his possessions- which is elite. Top 6 in the NHL. He was in the middle of the pack in those giveaways turning into goals. He was I. The upper echelon for SCF/SCA, HDCF,HDCA, etc. No, it wasn’t fans know how good he can play- it was fans who have no idea about the position and that defence is a 3 zone game including exits and denied entries. These fans chased away one of the best dmen of all time - Paul Coffey. It only took what- 30 some years to find another one?Part of the vitriol is because people know how well he can play.
He has shown the ability to ramp his play up in the playoffs which is impressive.
I don’t really understand why he makes as many avoidable mistakes as he does in the regular season.

Still should be a penalty though.
Last night, Pickard had a 0 goals saved above expected- meaning he saved all the shots he was supposed to. That’s all the Oilers needThe Oilers basically don't lose when their goaltending is average. They just don't often get even that much.

Tim Thomas stories happen in the annals of sport, and albeit rare, they probably continue to occur.
Even on the Oilers Pickard has pretty much made an increased gameshare of starts probable. People didn't think it would get this far with him claiming cage in the playoffs. So its already uncharted in that aspect.
If it wasn't for Twitter, how else would we get the shocking news about Howie Mandel.that's only if you're dumb enough to click on the replies

Hey, just doing my part lol.Oilers won and looked good doing it, so naturally the PGT is filled with arguments over Twitter and bluesky.
You think we played “near perfect 5v5 hockey” in Games 3, 4 and 6 vs LA?Not good goalies with teams playing near perfect 5v5 hockey in front of him win 5 games in a row.
I don't want to make this a thing, but Pickard is objectively at the very, very, best a dead average goalie if you're being generous. He's making the right saves at the right time and we're playing amazing in front of him. I don't put high odds on being able to ride that formula to 11 more wins, but I hope I'm wrong.
I had Pickard figured as well. In fairness to me the Connor Brown we're seeing now is by no way the one we wee seeing last season. Booch is another guy I liked. His skill so evident.Pickard and Klingberg being successes right now are nice reminders that I should stick to GM Mode in the NHL 2K games and be kept far, far away from any roster decisions anywhere, for any team, ever.
Also, I met Glen Sather as a kid and told him (arguably the greatest managerial mind the game has ever known) that PETER SARNO was going to be the "next great superstar" because he led the OHL in scoring. Nice to know that I'm as clueless about constructing a roster now as I was then.
I was also wrong about Knoblauch. The dude is a great coach. @Drivesaitl you were as right about Knob as you were wrong about Connor McBrown. I should've listened to you.
Pickard's story actually kind of reminds me of Johnny Bower, who had a one year stint as the Rangers starter when he was young (much like Pickard started for the Avs), then vanished for years in the AHL before resurfacing at pretty much the same age Pickard is now. The difference being that there were six teams back then and Bower was playing at an elite level when he did come back, so not quite the same admittedly...but it sounds cool.

I agree. It also comes to down to filtering your followers and mostly sticking to your "following" feed rather than the "for you" algo.that's only if you're dumb enough to click on the replies

I get all of my news from twitter. Hockey mainly. You can filter words out so you cannot see tweets. I mute as many political words I can out.Honestly I don’t know anyone who uses either anymore. I have a Twitter to look at hockey highlights sometimes but it’s too much of a shit hole to use for anything else.
