Post-Game Talk: Connor Magic!

I'm not on it, although it sounds like it has tighter controls and more rules

it's just a crappier, knock-off version of Twitter, with less people using it

No engagement farming, very few spam bots, less bugs, less crashes, it's essentially what Twitter was before it was taken over and turned into a cesspit of rage bait nonsense

Let's hope he maintains this level of play because this version of Bouchard is the big money player we had in the 2nd half of last season and in the playoffs.

Speaking of apology forms lots of people need to fill one out for Perry, Janmark, Brown, Klingberg, Kane, Frederic, etc.

Nobody has the monopoly on being right 100% of the time especially me and everyone else on the forum. What's the saying, "If I had a nickel for everytime...."

Except for me! I have never had an incorrect take on this board (please dont look through my post history).

These guys are making under $2 million:
- Brown, Perry, Klingberg, Janmark, Podkolzin, Emberson, Calvin Pickard.

We are getting solid contribution from these very low salary players. Hopefully they can keep it up... having solid depth like this is how you win championships.

Not to mention it's also possible to be correct in criticism of Bouchard for most of the year, and then recognize that he's pulled it together in the playoffs again.

It's unfortunate how some view anyone with an opinion as in a camp that they never will get out of. Bouchard was messy and underwhelming for most of the season. Fact. Bouchard has elevated in the playoffs again. Fact. Don't know why that's so hard for some.

I'm batting around 96%.

Did not realize a goofy apology form post for Bouch would turn into a convo on tribalism and opinion entrenchment on HF hahahaha

We all win some and we lose some on our takes on this board. Its all in the service of oilers getting the dub.

In fairness, the "tribalism" on Bouchard two summers ago and some this year has been rivaled in vitriol only by the "tribalism" in discussing our terrible goaltending situation. Like it's somehow impossible for bad goalies to have good games or to allow goals that nobody would stop. Everything is black or white and never, ever shall we allow any shade of grey.

Just watch, even this post will bring it back.

I mean tbf he still deserves a lot of flack by putting so much faith into Skinner. That's literally putting a handicap on yourself going into every match. Even a blind person could see that Skinner wasn't gonna get the job done.
imagine focusing on the negative when we've won 5 in a row in the playoffs, coming off a year we went to final.

live in the damn moment, enjoy the f***ing games for what they are.

I'm with you. I like Pickard, love the story, love and admire how much he's battling especially in the context of his bum colleague that thinks it's funny when he's getting shelled. However, he just isn't a good goalie and not much is going to change that. There is a long way to go to get the cup, and it's unlikely bend but don't break goaltending survives all the way.

The other side of this coin is that we seem to have found our 4 line forecheck game and have cleaned up our breakouts with crisp steady passing from Klingberg, Bouchard and Walman in particular. If we manage our penalties and keep up this level of play up front we might be able to get away with it.
Going to hard disagree there. bad goalies don't win 5 playoff games in a row.

Also the line between good and bad isn't a cup. Theres a whole gradient in the way, and Picard sits way above bad.

Confidence! The answer to why game 1 LA vs Game 1 Vegas differ. Pickard is much more confident than Skinner and team is accomplishing more in front of him Skinner would give his left nut to only face 17 shots(10@ ev) and only 3 hdsc against. A healthy Klingberg and a more adjusted Walman (less minutes at RD) has made the whole d group more dependable and we miss Ekholm a little less. The arrival of healthy Kane and Frederic has caused the balls to drop on many forwards. We relied on Podz and Perry for most of that all season. Suddenly we have 4 lines attacking the opponent defence.( who cares if they an all 6’2” 200+). Stay healthy and keep rolling; only 11 more wins to go

Going to hard disagree there. Good goalies don't win 5 playoff games in a row.

Not good goalies with teams playing near perfect 5v5 hockey in front of him win 5 games in a row.

I don't want to make this a thing, but Pickard is objectively at the very, very, best a dead average goalie if you're being generous. He's making the right saves at the right time and we're playing amazing in front of him. I don't put high odds on being able to ride that formula to 11 more wins, but I hope I'm wrong.

Knob gets a lot of heat here, but we mitigated Vegas' transition in a game our forwards mismanaged the puck quite a bit. It felt like our pre-scout was maybe better or better implemented. Cassidy is an elite coach and he is making a bunch of adjustments right now.

A lot of veterans seem to have hit game 7 mode in game 3 and haven't looked back. We played with next level speed tonight. We didn't even execute that well, but the pace was overwhelming. This team looks very determined
There isnt many adjustments Cassidy can make. They're built to play super defensive hockey and capitalize on mistakes. If they open the game up at all, they'll get killed because they are a very, very slow team.

so what you are saying is when the oilers win its because they play near perfect hockey and when they lose its because of the goalie... If this is the case why can't these results be repeated with Skinner? You are severely underrating Picard here.

Also a dead average goalie is a good goalie by definition. Its quite literally what Oiler fans here have been wanting FOR YEARS. We are getting it now, and its not good enough?

That's messier vs messier in here lmao
I joked that it was the LRT after watch parties.

"No, we won because of this player, no we won because of that or those players, I hate Jack Michaels! <Punch> .... You're wearing a rip off jersey you sophomore, <Kick to the face.>

I don't know what goes on. These have been really testy times for everybody though and I'm trying to remember we don't know what the other guy is thinking or feeling or what headspace they're in.

If the Oilers should mount a special thing this playoffs, and anyways, would be nice if there was a bit of Come together here.

honest question but why? outside the obvious "no trolls" reason
I only go on Twitter for mostly the hockey insiders and content and just looking now, people like Friedman and Seravalli don't post much there...heck, the official Oilers page has never made a post
so what's the allure of being there
no trolls is a pretty damn good reason. Its more welcoming and has a better userbase. Twitter is all bots fighting with people. Being away from miserable people is a win in my book. Its a big reason im hanging on the mains lately. The trolling from non oiler fans is better than the in fighting between oiler fans. Bluesky is refreshing.

There are other sources to get hockey insider information than Twitter, im a big fan of this site for keeping me informed. I haven't clicked on a twitter link in about 4 years. Its just better not being surrounded by hate and misinformation.

I'll be happy to be wrong if we hoist the cup riding an .891 SV% all the way to the end.

Just don't see it as likely, sorry.

cool, that doesn't make Picard a bad goalie though.I take exception to you saying that. Its false. he's given us every chance to win games. Its all we can expect from our goalies with what we pay them

I wondered a bit about this. Especially after game 1. That the Oilers just unmasked the way the Knights have to play. On their home ice.

What was most striking though and I don't know how this happens the Knights were fighting pucks, having trouble making plays and passes and struggled with the ice and bouncing pucks. The Oilers were much better with the puck, making plays, shooting, faceoffs etc.

Credit to Stone, he played very well. he had few with him.

That said I think Knights have to be more agressive and expend more energy. After first they were really getting outplayed and outworked. They had to mount a better third period and really failed to. Would be a demoralizing way to lose on home ice and the Oilers had the crowd right out of it for two periods.

This just an aside but the Oilers won't be playing one round against another Canadian Club (or I doubt it) no matter how far they advance. So that playing against US teams so much easier to take their home fans out of the equation. This may as well have been a neutral rink last night. No pressure for the Oilers and no real animus from the crowd either. Vegas, what a strange and surreal place to play NHL hockey in. Still doesn't seem right.

Coming from someone who right after our win last night came in here to complain about how much this place sucks compared to the holy land of the mains 😂 For someone who hates what this place has become you've sure been posting here a lot today...

We'll have to agree to disagree. He's a backup goalie in the NHL. We could win the cup and that wouldn't change.
no one is calling him a starter, but he isn't exactly losing games for us. Hes the best chance we have to win, and im getting behind that, because i want to see the team win, not find pre-excuses for a loss. Picard has given us no reason not to think we have a chance to win games. A lot of "better" and higher paid goalies aren't in the second round, picard is, and currently winning. Its all the about the chance he gives us, no goalie gives any team a 100% to win. You take what you can get and run with it.
