The +/- is a bit of a fluke, because I'm pretty sure he's the only D who plays on the PP and not the PK,

It may be a bit of a fluke but the PP & PK have nothing to do with it. PP pluses and PK minuses do not count in a players +/-.

I didn't think we were likely to keep him in any case, but keeping Prout and Falk on the roster? It'd make sense if they were actual improvements defensively, but... :shakehead

I shake my head a bit too; however I don't mind Falk at all.

technically right, but shorthanded ones do ;)

True but the original poster said he did not play on the PK (not sure if that's true). If anything being on the PP but not the PK should make the +/- look worse, not better.

I agree.

Connauton is a much better #6 or extra than Prout and Falk. Nothing surprises me anymore though.

Plus/minus means nothing.

However, wtf? They chose Falk over him? That's awful. He's going to get claimed. I really liked Connauton.

So much for Connauton and Savard can make up the loss for Wisniewski on our PP, thanks Kek.

Falk is absolutely awful, the worst of the three (Prout, Connauton) statistically. Like literally every statistic shows that the Jackets are better when Falk is off the ice. Scoring chances, shots against, possession, etc. Though that shouldn't come as a surprise for an AHL dman. He does get slightly tougher deployments which comes back around to coaching/evaluation, if he has those limitations, he shouldn't be put out in a position to get slaughtered or be in the NHL at all. Connauton isn't great by any means but he's undoubtedly better than Falk.

maybe they assume he'll be picked up and wanted a contract off the books? i havent looked at the contract situation so maybe that has nothing to do with it

**** you Jarmo and **** you JD!! Holy **** how dumb can you get? Waive the only guy who carries any value or redeeming qualities back there and will 100% be claimed. Could have gotten rid of Prout or Falk, or at bare minimum gotten them through to the A, but no that's far too difficult for these clowns to see. I'm done.

unless they changed the rules and I wasn't watching, goals against on the PK don't count in the +/-

...nope they didn't...from NHL.com:

Plus-Minus
A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic.

***update - derp, that's what I get for thinking the first page was the last page of comments

Lt's wait and see if anyone claims him before we go all crazy.
keep in mind Wiz was (statistically) our best d-man last year and he struggled to keep on the 3rd pair on a good team.
I don't understand the move either, but if he can clear waivers and get more ice time in minors it didn't hurt anything. If someone claims him I'll be frustrated too.

Here is what I think of this move. Who cares. He isn't a part of the future, so why care if he is on the team now when we stink. Maybe it's better he isn't on the team, since we are trying to get a top draft pick and you guys think he is so great :).
