If anyone wants to know how good Charlie Conacher was a goal scorer, only Alex Ovechkin, Bobby Hull and Phil Esposito have ever led the league in goals more times than Conacher. No, not Gretzky, nor Lemieux, not Howe. Just three players.
And for good measure, Conacher led the league in points twice too (the retro Art Ross), won a cup and was part of those dominant 1930s Leafs which would basically win the “retro-Presidents Trophy” and make the Stanley Cup finals almost every year.
Conacher is severely overlooked as an all-time hockey great, let alone overlooked by his own fan base. Conacher deserves twice the accolades Gilmour and Sundin actually receive.
Now that said, Matthews is on track to be even better.
