Commercials that annoy you in the 2024-25 season

It's live television. What do you do during the breaks?

I rarely watch live television. I generally start hockey games an hour after they actually start and I end up finishing at roughly the same time.

For football it's more like 2-2.5 hours. There isn't actually that much football within the 3.5 hours allotted.

The downside is that I can't text or whatever in real time. The upside is that I can do other things with my time instead of watching commercials.

Okay, then. Good for you. But you said "I'm unsure why anyone does at this point."

You're aware that some people watch live sports, yes?

Commercials are annoying (hence this thread) and easily avoidable. So why not avoid them? So you can be the first to tweet about it or whatever? I'll pass.

Seems like every ad on Sportsnet is a weird interview style with random people talking about something irrelevant for a full minute and then it's a Lincoln navigator.

"I'm using my mom's death to sell cars! Buy a Lincoln!"

No idea why that one gets so much airtime.

Another one that has me reaching for the mute button is that smarmy douchebag on the "Sports Interaction" gambling ads.

Thought I'd finally seen the last of him when they stopped running those dumb "Americans don't know hockey" ads during last year's playoffs, but now he's back again with some "board-er wall" joke. It's just so awful.

The one about Gen Z was pretty good but then the follow up about tips was just stupid. They probably also didn’t realize that having millionaires “fake complain” about tipping culture (essentially consumers supplementing companies to provide low wage service workers with a cost of living) could come off a bit tone deaf.
I just hope Marchand actually tips at 63% everything he eats out.

Gretzky used to eat McDonald's all the time, before practises and games. Guys like Usain Bolt, Tom Brady and Michael Phelps have also admitted to having a McDonald's habit.

Super Size Me was a scam by a binge-drinking alcoholic who used his deteriorating health as a smokescreen for an anti-fast food tirade. Fast food isn't really a big deal for athletes or even the regular person, as long as it's not your entire diet and you exercise regularly.
It's all about calories in versus calories out, but at the same time a caloric surplus or deficit from nutrient dense foods and proper exercise is going to give you vastly different health outcomes and body physique versus the exact same surplus or deficit from ultra processed foods and sedentary lifestyle.

The Saros "No goals" commercial is beyond annoying. But when your team scores 5 goals against him, it's pretty funny when it comes up during the game. lol. Sorry Nashville. lol.
The funniest thing about that is that his teammate in the commercial isn't on the Predators anymore.

There's another gambling app commercial running during Oilers games now where the screen just rotates the entire time and it makes me physically ill.

So this probably only applies to ducks fans, but on victory plus they have this incredibly bad lawyer commercial that plays about 20-30 times a game for Easton & Easton, they all just give a creepy vibe and it's terrible editing and acting.

Any of these prescription commercials. It’s basically two minutes of listing horrible, life changing side effects. But don’t worry, your eczema will be 30% less itchy :/

My wife was explaining this health symptom she has been dealing with for a year now .. on and off thing

I told to start paying attention to the prescription TV ads and tell me when she finds a match

f*** me .. we are only in our mid 40s

For a couple years Ducks audio broadcasts had a He Gets Us commercial that amounted to "Jesus was betrayed by his bestie, look, so relatable!" It was trying way too hard to be conversational, didn't make an iota of sense, and played every. single. break. I'm still not even sure what it was actually selling.

Thankfully it disappeared at some point this year, to be replaced with Garth Brooks asking every. single. break. if you've ever wondered what's on his personal playlist. No. No I have not, Garth. Not only did I not wonder in the first place, you tell me about it every ten minutes, so I wouldn't need to wonder anymore even if I'd ever cared. (This ad is for an audio app which, if you are listening to a game on Ducks Stream, you are almost certainly already using.)
