Amy Schumers comedy special actually just made me mad after like 10 minutes. I dont think many people consider her funny though. The fact she is listed as a standup comedy is a black mark on the profession. Definition of a hack.

I saw her live in 2012 and thought she was pretty funny, I am not too familiar with her recent material. I know people have said she steals material, sucks if it is true, but I rarely go digging around after watching comedians to try and find out if they are hacks or not.

Joe Rogan's the most bizarre and confusing case for me, personally. Overall, I like him-- I think he's pretty admirable and like-able as a cultural personality, all things considered, is talented as a podcast guy, and is reasonably respectable and serviceable in every off-shoot profession that he seems to try his hand at (actor in a sitcom, game-show host, sports commentator, etc), but for some reason, he chooses to primarily identify himself as/dedicate himself to pretty much the only one profession I'm aware of where he's a completely irredeemable hack at, in my eyes.

As far away as he is from being an intellect, I'd even go as far as to say that I'd sooner find him credible in that role than I would in a comedic role, personally.

Not going to bother listing the more obvious ones that everyone seems to agree on. Other guys who a lot of people seem to like/respect but seem obnoxious and hack-y to my tastes:

Jeff Ross
Bo Burnham
Patton Oswald
Jim Jeffries
Greg Giraldo

Also cannot stand that Bert Kreischer guy, but I don't know if people actually like him or not.

Ooooh I forgot how much I dislike Jeff Ross.

Joe Rogan was the first that came to mind for me. The guy's whole act is basically just 'Look how politically incorrect I am, aren't I so edgy?'

Louis CK never clicked for me. I can tell he has talent though, but I guess it's just not for me.

Also, any comedian whose act relies entirely on the same old 'white people are different from black people' jokes. I think I've probably heard at least half a dozen comedians use the line "Ain't no black people in Minnesota."

Dane Cook to me might be the worst comedian of all time. The second worst? You guessed it... Frank Stallone.

Literally 20+ years ago but I remember a lot of material about pooping.

I once saw Dustin Diamond do standup about 15 years ago and he had an entire bit about not being able to get the booger off your finger after picking your nose. He then sold copies of Saved by the Bell scripts outside after the show.

Of course not. That is not the logical extension of my post. Being a good comedian is, partly at least, making an impression. Saying something you remember.

And part of being a good comedian is being funny. Hicks, IMO, fell short in that category

Funny, I feel the complete opposite.

She's one of the few female comedians that I can still appreciate. Not as funny as Tig Notaro but she's up there. She should be, too, having been in the business for 30+ years.

I can do without her political commentary, though.

Never heard his podcast but isn't it more of a "man's clubhouse" kind of chat and not him trying to be funny all the time?

Joe Rogan Experience

I like it more so for the guests he has on, everyone from comedians, scientists, hunters, athletes, etc.

Bill Hicks and George Carlin are the first to come to mind. Carlin especially, who is more of a ranter than a comedian. Generally, I dislike comedians who mistake being loud with being funny. There are exceptions like Bill Burr and Doug Stanhope, but I'd say there's an inverse correlation between how loud a standup is and how funny they are.

Too many bad ones already mentioned. Carlin had perfect delivery, so his material could be limited but the way he used it was genius if not always amusing.

I like Billy Connolly, although he's close to the end unfortunately.

There are very, very many bad comedians. People who tends to overestimate their own jokes.

With the danger of being sexist, I do find very few female comedians funny. There are exceptions though, so I don't rule as not-funny before they have talked for a while- just like I judge the male ones. But it is noticable how seldom they are funny. Sorry.
I agree. To be fair, they're no worse than MOST male comedians, but for whatever reasons, there don't seem to be any who have risen past that and been an exception the way that a handful of male comedians have.

I also think part of the problem is that there are definitely fewer females interested in getting into comedy in general, and the women who are there tend to get prematurely put on an undeserved pedestal because of the whole political thing, and it makes the imbalance seem worse than if talent was just allowed to get elevated organically.

Kevin Hart is meh. Gallagher is unfunny. Aziz could be funnier but he relies on that obnoxious delivery too much. Ken Jeong's standup that I've seen is terrible but he's hilarious otherwise.

I agree so much with this. He has a very anxious energy performing standup...always shouting and huffing and puffing red as a tomato.

I think deep down he knows he's not an elite comedian....but to be fair his standup is what got him recognized to get his foot in the door with News Radio. Maybe it was better back in the day. I love his podcast and UFC work though. You definitely can't take away what he's built (even though I'd say 80%+ of his listeners don't even like his standup).

I pretty much agree with the majority of this thread.....a lot of comedians are just obnoxious. Dane Cook, Amy Shumer, Louis CK, Jeff Ross...honestly the list goes on and on.
The majority of standups have this anxious yelling energy and it's just really not for me. The dudes that sort of coined it were the best at it though(Carlin, Pryor,Steve Martin)
Then I respect the legends like Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock who definitely have a lot of chops, but again are a little too erratic at times but can still enjoy because of their skill.

My favorite comedians
Mitch Hedberg
Zack Galifianakis (Mitch with a Piano)
Dave Chapelle
Bill Burr
Rodney Dangerfield
As far as female comedians I do find Sarah Silverman really fun, but more so in interviews than standup.
