Confirmed with Link: Comcast Spectacor and 76ers To Build New Stadium In South Philly (Opening 2031)

  • Xenforo Cloud upgraded our forum to XenForo version 2.3.4. This update has created styling issues to our current templates, this is just a temporary look. We will continue to work on clearing up these issues for the next few days and restore the site to it's more familiar look, but please report any other issues you may experience so we can look into. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
So is the typical stadium life now 20-30 years? Pretty crazy with how expensive they are especially if taxpayer money is involved. Shibe Park, Veterans Stadium, and JFK Stadium were around forever it felt like. If they are talking of replacing the Linc that’s crazy, greedy talk

The Vet was, I believe, 32 years old.

The Eagles' lease is up in, I think eight years, which would put us at 2032-2033 which will put the Linc at 30 years old.

Damn you’re right. I guess it just feels a lot longer. The difference between the Summer of Love and the 2000’s seems a century apart culturally and technologically. The early 2000’s to 2030 feels more or less like the same era

The plan is to tear down WFC with this new stadium plan. The Linc will obviously be torn down whenever the Eagles get their new stadium.

Quick look and the WFC is tied with six other arenas for 10th oldest arena in the NHL.
oh i forgot wachovia center was its prior name. 96 yea makes sense

Funny...stadiums are considered old and are torn down after 30 years...yet school buildings in this country like in Philly are much much older. Heck prisons are more modern than some schools. Sounds liks we need a DOPE....Department of Private Efficiency.

@JojoTheWhale

Plausible that Goodell got involved at the behest of Brian Roberts and Comcast due to their NBC/Peacock media rights with the NFL?

Absolutely. I was having a discussion with a buddy who's a media reporter yesterday where I got straightened out pretty flatly. Brady as a top announcer is important because of the relationship benefits with the NFL. I thought it was a name recognition buy. The game doesn't matter. Almost everything comes back to tv money.

The press release also confirms the reports of Comcast getting in on the WNBA bid, and mentions the Comcast/Phillies redevelopment project, so this is in conjunction with that, not replacing it (I had assumed as much, but it wasn't clear from earlier reporting.)

So will this make the traffic going to games better or worse?
Huge construction site down at the complex...definitely worse in the near future. (although I suspect your being sarcastic)

WFC while much nicer with the recent renovations is very small. The corridors are tiiight compared to many newer arenas.

I also cant wait to pay $48 for chicken fingers and a water in 2031.

Seems like the Wells Fargo Center just opened. I'm either getting old, or it's way too soon for them to get another arena.

I'm excited for it, who am I to tell billionaires how to spend there money, especially when I live in Delaware...the building is going to be about the same commute time, and they say they are fully funding it themselves. Sure go for it...just don't f*** up the parking and tailgating situations.

It's not like we had any amount of success in that building. I have no emotional connection to it, like I did the spectrum or vet.

Im trying to recall what the traffic situation was like during the construction of cbp, tear down of the spectrum, and build out of xfinity.

Also Im assuming those renderings that Fake Ed Snider and company shared of the new Xfinity Live Arena District project is going to be completely overhauled.

Mayor not mentioning the flyers at all. skipped over hilf entirely....lol
