That is very cool of Bjork to take an interest in the other players at development camp. Those are the character traits that make people leaders

Very happy for a local kid, & I understand that he might have gotten more waiting to sign.. but he is probably just happy to be getting his shot. His brother is a freshman at Miami? Excellent for the Sherwood family

Yeah, and I think we have quite a few guys like that. Leadership is not something I am worried about with our team for a long time.

Great to see. Say what you want about DM as a GM, I think he was a good president. I've played in the rec leagues since 03 and the growth has been 1000 fold. He got the kids interested, which pulled the parents in with them, and now we're getting products from Central Ohio. I believe we have the 2nd largest adult rec league in the US, not too shabby.

Wait, the Oilers got into trouble last year when they signed a kid who was still draft eligible. Is Kole still draft eligible? If he is, this could get nixed

As mentioned, Tkachev got nixed because he had played part of his draft year overseas. Previously the Flyers goofed and tried to sign Tomas Hyka to a deal too. There is a window to sign undrafted North Americans with remaining draft eligibility. The most prominent one recently was probably Martin Jones who went undrafted in 2008. He attended the Kings' prospect camp and impressed, then signed a deal.

It's not unusual to see a couple guys get signed, although Sherwood might be the first non-CHL guy to do so that I can remember.

Great news on Sherwood. He really did stand out when I was there Thursday for the 4v4. Great hockey name, too. Given his brother's name of Keifer, it would be awesome if they were to name one of their future hockey playing sons Bauer. Bauer Sherwood is an *awesome* hockey name, IMO.

I'm not sure anyone could disagree that XGMDM was a good salesman. He could probably sell hockey in Egypt.

He just sucks at building a team.

I just wish his ego was such that he was capable of delegating the GM job and doing so without complaint or butting in. If he had that capability, he'd be an amazing hockey exec. Instead, he's a two-bit commentator on SportsNet and a punchline. Unfortunate.

I'm trying to think of the last time that an undrafted player signed an ELC right out of the first rookie camp.

Does it matter? He's not going to be in the NHL, so he won't actually be making that exact amount until he is or is on a one-way.

#CBJ Kole Sherwood's three-year, entry-level deal carries a $833,333 #NHL salary and $250,000 signing bonus. Big money for an undrafted FA.

Yes, it is a bonus for signing. So, when he signs the contract, he gets it.

I wasn't a CBJ fan 12 years ago but was Fritsche really "forced" by GMDM? He was drafted in the mid-2nd round yet ranked in the top 10 NA skaters. Could you blame any team of scouts or front office executives for picking someone that highly rated at that point?
He wasn't forced as in, scouted and picked entirely based on where he is from... but I guess maybe the trade for Brian Holzinger would be a better example of Doug reaching to grab a "local" guy.

I shouldn't bring Doug up, as he's only one small part of why local hockey here is starting to produce the caliber of talent that it is.

Wow! I saw that and was totally surprised. They must really want this kid. And I'm betting it has nothing to do with him being from the area. Nice human interest story but he must really have shown a lot at the development camp. Hopefully he develops as they think he will.

He was one of the best on the ice at the 4-on-4 tournament. Didn't just fit in, but stood out.

Then it's idiotic. Having said that, looks like 925 is max at the NHL level. So, no, it's wasn't the max. He's below Rychel and Milano. Also, not sure what kind of performance bonus's he got if any.

I'm happy for the kid, but the only reason he got that, at this point, is because he was undrafted. Maybe there was interest from other clubs. Not a lot of reasons to explain mid to late first round salaries.

So, basically, CBJ gave him comparable "money" that a first round pick would have got last month? I wonder what Jarmo (if he is believed that he tried to get another 7th rounder to draft Kole) couldn't give up to get that other 7th rounder.

Was it going to take more to sign him to prevent him from putting himself out there in the draft in 2016?

Again, good for the kid though, I don't want people to think I'm not happy for him and obviously, it's good PR for the franchise.
