I just caught this OP and it is doubly funny now that we're starting our backup.

Like I've heard multiple Jackets refer to this as "a playoff game" in locker room interviews. Evason isn't treating it that way.

We are 3-6-1 against Detroit in our last 10 meetings. Including 1-6-1 in the last 8. We’ve given up a lot of goals to this team in the last 10 meetings (although to be fair that’s against some putrid teams and defenses).

Starting the backup tonight in no way means they aren't treating this as a playoff game. Being in the hunt this late in the year, they are all playoff games until they are in or out. Tarasov is going to get some games between now and the end of the season, and the Jackets are going to lose some games between now and then, just how it is going to be. For all anyone knows, Elvis could just have some soreness and they are giving him an extra day.

Giving the backup some games isn't the big deal people are making it. The team just needs to play their game, and things will fall into place, tonight isn't make or break. There are still 23 games after tonight.

Tarasov is just as good as Merzlikins, in the same way Mateychuk is just as good as Provorov.

Provorov is a 40 point d man who can play 25 minutes a night on both sides of d.

Mateychuk has 4 points in 21 games and quite a few defensive lapses lately.

Deyton can certainly surpass Provorov in the future, but he’s far far from it today

Marchenko is impossible to get the puck from, he wins so many 50/50s. It's really changed his game to where he's changing the game routinely with how strong he is winning back the puck.
