Granted that a deal based around Draisaitl for Parayko, Does make the most sense here. Just doubt that either Chiarelli or Armstrong would do it. Chiarelli is pretty high on Draisaitl as is Armstrong on Parayko. And granted that St Louis is in the Central and Edmonton in the Pacific. Both clubs down the road could be squaring off against each other just not sure if they would want to help each other out.

Yup Chiarelli will want that 1-2-3 punch down the middle and Draisaitl definitely helps that cause out. And agreeing that Parayko definitely could be the next Pronger here.

I like your analysis. You're always reasonable and intelligent, respect. We've chatted before, I remember you being reasonable.

Yeah, think about it, McDavid-Nuge-Drai. Drai will be our 3C, he's going to feast on the weak bottom 6 in the Pacific. Drai has an opportunity to absolutely destroy mismatches, imagine him playing ANAs bottom 6?

Given the Blues needs at Center, that's the only position they'd realistically accept in return. So to find a trade partner where this is even remotely plausible, you've got to have a team with depth enough to give up a young #1 center. Considering they're just as rare as #1 defensemen, the options are extremely limited.

So yeah... Draisaitl is just about it. Neither team does it, though IMO. Both politely decline.

I saw a few blues fans saying they wouldnt trade Parayko for Matthews.

I think you're lying. Citations?

They're are plenty of HF Blues that wouldn't, those people shouldn't be taken too seriously though.

There was a poll on the Blues board, which appears to have been since deleted for some reason, which asked the question around March/April: As a Blues fan, who would you rather have, Parayko or Matthews. It was around 60% in favor of Parayko. Let's not act like this was some lunatic-fringe portion of the board, or the vocal-minority. There were some sound, and logical explanations for choosing the stud-D over the stud-C.

...but that discussion is for another time and place.

I think we have consensus Drai for Parayko is the closest value that exists.

I would while cringing my teeth do that deal. If Shatty was locked up in STL, I think they would grit their teeth and do that deal too.

I'd do the deal for Parayko, just on a gut call. I know it's equal. Don't know if STL pulls the trigger too, but you can't get a more fair 1 for 1 I think.

I do like McDavid-Nuge-Drai down the middle though. That's a 3-headed monster.

The original poster is referring to the Nylander for Parayko thread.

It may have been shot down by someone, but if Blues want a great center prospect for Parayko to keep Shattuck than Strome or Draisait make perfect sense.

Likely move is they let Shatty walk at the end of the year.

Drai >>Strome

Yes, but you're ignoring the Shattenkirk issue. In a hypothetical scenario where Shatty is only garnering a late 1st while willing to resign at a reasonable deal and Parayko can fetch Draisaitl, it's something Armstrong thinks about, and same with Chia.

If I'm STL I jump at Dr. Drai for Parayko, then resign Shattenkirk. It's like getting a free Drai while still keeping the right side roughly as intact (vs with Shattenkirk walking). Maybe even move Pietrangelo for Drai++ and keep Shattenkirk/Parayko.

Move our best player who we just named captain? Not very likely

If Pietrangelo is moving the only player from Edmonton that would be worth giving him up for would be McDavid.

Not trading a top 10 defender in the league on a very good contract for someone that hasn't shown much outside of 50 games in the NHL and isn't McDavid. If we are trading Pietrangelo, we are looking for a Seguin/MacKinnon/etc type.

Would absolutely love to have Draisaitl...but want to keep Parayko too :scared:

Our debate too :)

Parayko is our boy, Edmonton born kid. After STL fans, EDM fans are the biggest Parayko backers. Dr. Drai is unreal (hat-trick against Sweden, tearing up the World Cup).

With McDavid-Nuge, I'd do it for Parayko. Similarily, if you lock up Shatty, you have Pietro-Shatty, worth it to move Parayko for Drai.

It's a weird perfect match. Dr. Drai for Parayko is fair market value, even unbiased fans agree.

Even the biased fans agree which is always the hard part.

At this point I think Parayko would be a luxury

Don't get me wrong, I love Draisaitl. I truly believe he is gonna be something special, but if it costs Parayko, I'd pass. Parayko is another "do it all" type defensman, like Pietrangelo and having two of those can go a long way. Shattenkirk isn't on his level. Besides, Chiarelli seems to be trying to make Edmonton bigger with additions like Reinhart, Maroon, Lucic, etc. I doubt he moves a big center with lots of talent.
It's tough to pass on Draisaitl, but Parayko is just invaluable to us.

parayko vs draisaitl seems fair and a good trade for both team from a neutral point of view

Putting aside what HFPosters say on the issue, I don't think DA would move Parayko for Drai.

Hitch's system depends on reliable defensive play from his D-Men and Parayko was pretty much a savior for Hitch last year (particularly b/c Shatty had such a bad year defensively). Parayko, as a rookie, was probably the second best D-Man on the team. Adding Drai but losing Parayko is a pretty big net loss for the Blues as a team IMO.

Considering Parayko's impact as a rookie and his already strong relationship with the Blues brass, I think it would take an established PPG forward or a prospect who is almost guaranteed to be that good to get the Blues thinking....not arguing value here...just saying the Blues already know what they have in Parayko and probably have a comfortable internal sense of his floor and his ceiling.
