I do NOT want to see if Sammy is actually better in a game against a divisional rival. I am sorry. I am not risking important 2 points. Why should we let Detroit get 2 points closer?
Detroit is not exactly a world-beater, and they aren't going to finish remotely close to the leafs. It's a decent game for samsonov to play.

One game doesn’t mean anything one way or the other. It’s how we end up at the end of the season. If we spank the Avs tonight they are not a serious team…
I'm not basing everything on one game. I'm taking into account the Leafs track record. We've regressed this season vs past seasons, lost a game to NY where we didn't look good, and just finished up a string of beating up on some meh teams. If the team can't find the will to get up and battle a very good team tonight then yes, I won't think they're very serious about winning anything of importance

Obviously how we end the season matters if new information points to the Leafs being able to play a full 60 more often than not then you know what? That will look like a serious team ready for the playoffs. But for right now if you think playing poorly against the Ilse and then putting up no effort tonight is fine because it's all about the potential finish then more power to you!

One game isn’t really an indicator of anything in itself. Teams have off games all the time. I really wish someone in our media hadn’t decided to bring up the “not a serious team” mantra because that’s seemingly become the catch phrase around here for a bunch of people.
I'm not basing my opinion on one game. I've also never heard the phrase from someone in the media nor have I seen poster throwing the term around. I've seen this team choke.... Alot however. Half way through the season and we got smacked by the Sabres, lost to the Blackhawks twice and we have an inability to win games in regulation (even against meddling teams). Team needs to start showing at some point that they are an elite team that will challenge for the Stanley Cup or no I won't think they are very serious.

You know what? Maybe aren't serious isn't the right phrase here. Maybe I should have said incapable of being a serious team.

After 39 games for us and 42 for Colorado they have 7 more points than us, not much difference at all. Tonight’s game doesn’t change things much at all.

Playoffs are a whole different ball of wax, different format, different rules. They are just a tournament.

Only makes sense. And the coldest player who lost the net, we need to bring him up right away without playing a game in NHL and building confidence

I am beginning to think Keefe doesn't know how confidence works
Domi is pointless his last 4 games too.

The Leafs didn't take full advantage of their soft schedule in the first half(3 wins in 11 games against OTT, BUF, CBJ and CHI), the second half will be extremely tough.
Exactly. We could play great and improve in the standings or we could actually be outside the playoffs if tampa and Detroit go on a tear. Unlikely but still could happen as Leaf’s face much better teams coming up. I know homers will say Leaf’s are a good team but we’re not even close to a true contender as it stands.

I'd be happy for 3rd. I've simplified the season at the half way, cheer for leafs and anyone playing wings or lightening.

Bud's are going to have to be right on the top of their PK game tonight if they want to come away with any points.

They were looking very workmanlike early in the season, a very quiet well positioned bunch, closing up passing lanes and making confident clears. I think they were top 3 in the NHL up until game 15 or so. I don't know what changed, but they need to get it back.

I'd be comfortable at top dozen in the PK and top 5 on the PP. Those special teams numbers should be good enough to carry some playoff wins, maybe 50% of them.

Tonight is a good test for them and a real good place to start

I’m kinda doing same tbh. It’s most likely we’re gonna be third. We have to face either Florida or Boston who we have never beat post season. Hopefully they step up and beat them.

It’s possible, not sure it’s necessarily the most likely though. If we win our 2 games in hand, we’d be only 2 points back of the Panthers and 3 of the Bruins. It’s far too early to know where we finish in the division. Nothing stopping us from taking 1st.

Going a step further even, I think it’s an entirely defendable position to take that Samsonov is the primary reason we’re not 1st in the division right now.

Boston really doesn't scare me tbh. 1st round exits recently even after a record breaking regular season, the roster just doesn't seem that scary anymore.

Oh we will definitely play Boston or Panthers, it’s which one of us gets home ice. ;)

Robertson has scored three of his last four games, clearly he needs to sit.
I really think the Leafs are dead serious about this game. They're right on top of the 2nd half and they have to find out what the real needs are.

With a big fast and hard team, maybe they though Holberg is a better choice. Robbie tends to disappear now and again against big, physical teams. Plus they get to find out about Holmberg a super skilled favourite player of some NHL players, who knows, could be true

Going to need Jones to be MUCH better than he was against the NYI.

Can't allow 2 softies against Colorado

Don't really get all this love for Robertson.

He can score goals and has a good shot - yes. He can produce offensively - yes.

His puck possession skills are awful, he's easily pushed off the puck, lackluster defensive ability. In no way do you say Robertson should be in over Holmberg
I'd like to have both Robertson and Holmberg in the lineup and would otherwise look to the fourth line for the healthy scratch...if only a lack of penalty killers wasn't (going to be) an issue.

Have you watched the playoffs at all ? why do the leafs keep losing ? THEY CANT SCORE GOALS

Let’s rip the band aid off and put Sammy in for tonight, if he lets in a bunch of goals just waive him for good and we can forget about him

There are no safe games for Samsonov if he doesn't have his head screwed on properly befitting a professional goaltender. There's no reason why Toronto should have dropped those two games to Columbus of all teams leading up to Samsonov's first purge.
