Makes zero sense for the Avs....

Avs do not need Pleks, they also don't need Flynn. DD provides zero incentive for the Avs as well.

Beauch is good defensive depth and the only reason they'd ditch him is for cap purposes...which in this deal they're actually taking on more cap.

Bad deal.

Addresses no needs for the Avs. Addresses needs for Montreal by ditching contracts and cap.

Why does Montreal do this? Soderberg is NOT better than Plekanec at either end of the ice.

Beauchemin is not the defenceman we need, and I do not see him as being better than Weber, Petry or Markov. He might be better than Beaulieu at the moment, but there is no reason to bring him in and stunt Beaulieu's development.

The deal is probably not useful for Colorado, either, since Plekanec is the kind of guy you go after if you are expecting to make the playoffs and do well. The Avs, according to what their fans have been saying in trade threads, are rebuilding.

The trade makes no sense for either team. It weakens Montreal and does not offer players to help Colorado with their rebuild.

Just want to point out that the Avs are nearing the end of a rebuild, not really rebuilding again. With that said, I think keeping Beauchemin and Soderberg makes more sense for the Avs than what they get in this trade.

If Beauchemin is traded, the Avs get worse now and possibly in the future. He showed last year that he's like having another coach on the ice, and he can help mentor guys like Zadorov, while still playing top 4 minutes and taking some of the harder defensive matchups.

Soderberg is cheaper and signed longer than Plekanec, which helps give the Avs a little more time to let guys like Jost develop. And if Jost or Compher is ready in 1-2 years and pushes Soda down the depth chart, he's not so expensive that keeping him as a 3C is necessarily going to be cost prohibitive. Production and PKing ability is close enough that it's a pretty lateral move otherwise.
