Nothing for Duchene tonight. By my count, Claude Giroux, John Tavares, Zach Parise and the aforementioned Matt Duchene have combined for 0 points at even strength during this homestand. Gerbe - J. Staal - Dwyer - Sekera - Faulk doin work.

Normally I would say "Well to be fair Giroux is terrible this season", but in the past we've been the kind of team that allows players in slumps to get their scoring touch back.

So yeah, big ups to the shutdown guys.

Every time I watched Tim Thomas play, he allowed gigantic rebounds. The key was, his D knew they were coming so they either faced Thomas as soon as the shot was let go, or they actively tied up the attacking forwards right away.

I'm not saying Peters=Thomas or that games like this are sustainable. However, I feel like the term "rebound control" means less the more aware the D is.

M.T. Knett really continues to stonewalled us. I really thought we had him beat during that offensive zone face-off.

It would be nice to win a game by more than one goal...

M.T. Knett vs us would certainly win the Vezina, lol.

At some point, yes we do need to start winning by more than one goal, but right now I'm happy they are winning.

Also, I can't get over the saucer pass from Gerbe to Dwyer for the goal. At first glance it did not look like much, but you could really appreciate it from the ice-level replay. The D man was in pretty good position with his stick outstretched in the passing lane. Gerbe put it just a few inches above the ice, right over the D's stick and on the tape of Dwyer. Just a great play.

We played a solid team game. Our blue line is AWESOME. Peters let out a lot of rebounds. A win is a win though so...

The defense (forwards and dmen) has been amazing. It's like Justin Peters is trying to make it as tough as possible. But in JP's defense, he's stopped that first shot like a champ. Nothing else at all, but that first shot he's taken care of.

It's more than I thought he was capable of.

Nice win. I thought the Canes did play entertaining hockey for two periods.. its not end to end rushes but tough forechecking forcing turnovers and cycling is how this team will win.

The third period was scary.

Most of Peter's rebounds go right into the slot. It just took the team five games before they figured that out and started to clear them.

The defense has done a good job of not hanging Peters out to dry and when they do once or twice a game, he makes the save. His movement and rebound control can be covered when all the players are back.

Not that any of you are listening but I love Mike Maniscalco trying to convince John Forslund that Patrik Stefan came up through our system. John says "Stefan never played for this franchise" and Mike says "well what about being played here early, I think I'm just confusing Stefan and Daigle". "Neither has ever played for the Hurricanes."

Man oh man our transition game was sweet gravy for huge stretches of the game, but we have to play a little more aggressively with the lead. I can't complain about the result, but we relied on Peters a little more than I'd have liked. We had so few scoring chances in the last half hour.

Like watching paint dry. Paul Maurice hockey there. We sat in our end the entire third period. It's a win but we aren't going too far with that.

LOL.

We hand one of the fastest and most offensively talented teams in the NHL their first road loss with an inspired total team effort, and folks are crying about style points.

If we play that kind of team defense every night, we're a playoff team, period. If that doesn't interest you, I don't know what to tell you. Don't come, I guess.

Losing Dvorak, thus shortening the bench may have had something to do with it. Also, that really good team on the other side of the ice.

Mike was speaking over the radio over trading for Nail Yakupov and foreshadowing to the audience that we shouldn't consider giving up too much because sometimes you get "a Stamkos or a Tavares but sometimes you get a Stefan".

I'd offer Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd for Nail personally.

Yeah, who cares about the style points? Let's enjoy the hell out of this win. Though to be fair there is a legitimate concern about just how much time we spent in our zone in the 3rd. It was all Avs and the shot total doesn't accurately reflect how one-sided it was.

We only allowed 2 shots on goal until the ~11 minute mark (9 minutes left in the game) in the third period. After that, it was all Avs.

Before that, we were trapping the hell out of them and they couldn't figure out a way to stop us. Honestly, it was our team getting nervous more than their team changing anything that caused the Avs to come on.

First of all....crying?

Second, I've had this opinion all year - not just tonight.

Third, I already said I wouldn't pay to watch that.

Yes. I would characterize it as "crying". And if you don't want to pay to see hockey like that, fine. If we keep winning with this style of hockey, plenty of people will pay, and you can move on to basketball.

I would just like to point out that this debate has been killed, resurrected and then killed again on the Caps' board. It's been beaten to death.

I'm sure they'll survive without my cash. It's an opinion, we're all allowed them. Is any comment or opinion that goes against yours "crying"?
