Depth is a beautiful thing. Makes such a difference. Everyone and their dog knows the Avs top guys are insanely good, they just need help and the the Avs will wreck teams.

Man, there’s so many things I like about how Charlie Coyle plays hockey.
Watch this Kiviranta goal.
He positions Colton at the edge of the circle. Looks back at him to make sure he’s in the right spot. Wins the faceoff to him. Immediately goes to the net for a rebound, which wasn’t needed as Kivi scored the goal.
He didn’t watch it from a low percentage area. He didn’t p***yfoot allowing himself to be blocked by a defender. Straight to the net.
Text book hockey that coaches adore.

You can see how much more fun Ross Colton is having playing with Charlie Coyle. It's like he knows the big responsibility is taken care of and he can go out and bash dudes and try to score.

This might be the best our defense has looked from a depth perspective. We’re missing our entire second defensive pair and our 7th and 8th defenseman looked like NHL caliber defenders.
On top of that, we have a 3C who can pass as a 2C and a 4C who can pass as a 3C.
Are there any other Dallas outcast the Avs can turn into solid NHL players? Kivi has really established himself as a solid NHLer this season.

The guys away from the puck that I'm very impressed with are Coyle and Lindgren.
Coyle has racked up a few assists but he's just so strong on the forecheck, great positioning and winning puck battles. He seems like the perfect 3C for us.
Lindgren isn't wowing anyone with the puck and he's not expected to. Dude is just rock solid defensively and efficiently clears the puck out of the zone. There was one play that stood out to me tonight, he turned over the puck behind the net and by the time the Sens got the puck to the far circle, Lindgren was right there to strip the puck and send it out of the zone.

Yeah I noticed that too. He was perfectly positioned for a rebound. Glad you posted that.
Nelson is smart around the net too. First the screen on Oettinger when Nuke scored against Dallas, and now this tip. That tip play shows that Nelson is starting to get to know his linemates and their tendencies a bit. He had his stick down in perfect position expecting the shot-pass from Lehkonen.
There were more guys getting to rebounds (like Coyle) and looking for tips (like Nelson) this game. Thinking Bednar probably made a point of that after the Toronto game where they didn't do enough of that.

Thank god I only got my access back after this game.
I was so angry for @RoyIsALegend to attend last night's game and how it went with own goal and that referee nightmare
but all is good now with the blowout 
Nice to see Brock finally hit the net and not the posts. He looks relaxed, its just the way he plays as it looks slow that is frustrating, but he has the brain to do it.
Like the lines. Druin seems to be playing better with Nate, and Brock propably is helped by having Necas and Lehky on the sides. Also the bottom lines are hammering it in at the moment.
Wedgewood is just so good as backup.

The Sens came out with energy the first 5 minutes but the Avs weathered that and then ran away with the game and coasted in the 3rd period.

Really nice to see Malinski using his skating ability up the ice. He's always been a gifted skater, I just felt like he lacked the confidence to join the rush. For my money he's a top-3 skater on the Avs.
Coyle has also been a revelation on the third line. I think he's the best 3C we've had in a long, long time. Imagine a line with Landeskog/Coyle/Colton... A defenseman's nightmare

They just blew their load within the first 5 minutes of the game and didn't score. I kept thinking wow, they are playing really well but I doubt they can keep up this pace for the whole game.
I bet they've been doing this for a while now and trying to get the 1st goal of the game. Looks like it's been working for them... I think the telecast said that they had the best record in the league when they score first.

First period was a blast. Kinda boring after that. The Sens fans sitting beside me left after the 5th goal.
I almost felt bad for people. Seeing a bunch of families with young kids with sad looks on their faces with nothing to be excited about all night. That's the nature of sports but it's wild that you can drop a couple hundred dollars to bring your family out to the game only to get destroyed and know it's over in the first period
That said I'm always impressed by the turnout of Avs fans in Ottawa. Feels like the crowd is 20% people in Avs jerseys every time. Shout out to the wasted girl in the Nuke jersey.

A) My dream top four has Manson and Girard in it, but at the very least Manson
B) Not the best game to try to point out how essential Girard is to the team and how Malinski can't replace him as a puck moving defenseman
GTA and surrounding area has a pretty healthy Avs fandom, for how far away the team is location wise. Add on the often times crazy Leaf tickets price, and it makes sense why the Avs fandom can have a heavy presence there.

We have a really strong and experienced/battle tested team this year. I’m a big fan of the 4th line not being a throw away line. That was really key in 2022, when the 3rd line was weak.
Let’s hope Nelson can build off this game, because he’s a key piece.
Keep Makar’s minutes in the reasonable territory the rest of the way and then play him 28 minutes a night in the playoffs and go chase that cup.
