GDT: Colorado Avalanche @ Ottawa Senators

First period was a blast. Kinda boring after that. The Sens fans sitting beside me left after the 5th goal.

I almost felt bad for people. Seeing a bunch of families with young kids with sad looks on their faces with nothing to be excited about all night. That's the nature of sports but it's wild that you can drop a couple hundred dollars to bring your family out to the game only to get destroyed and know it's over in the first period o_O

That said I'm always impressed by the turnout of Avs fans in Ottawa. Feels like the crowd is 20% people in Avs jerseys every time. Shout out to the wasted girl in the Nuke jersey.
I almost went to that game last night but had some stuff come up which made it too difficult.

Last year, tickets on Gametime were like $9 US a few days before the game... I think this year they were more expensive because the Sens could actually make the playoffs instead of being a tire fire like they usually are.

Really nice to see Malinski using his skating ability up the ice. He's always been a gifted skater, I just felt like he lacked the confidence to join the rush. For my money he's a top-3 skater on the Avs.
Malinski was paired with AHL defensemen most of the season. Put him with skilled partners and he can play his game. That pass to Nelson in the 1st was pure savvy + skill.

Just need to stay relatively healthy.

We have a really strong and experienced/battle tested team this year. I’m a big fan of the 4th line not being a throw away line. That was really key in 2022, when the 3rd line was weak.

Let’s hope Nelson can build off this game, because he’s a key piece.

Keep Makar’s minutes in the reasonable territory the rest of the way and then play him 28 minutes a night in the playoffs and go chase that cup.
This has always been the concern with the Avs. We really need Manson and Girard back for the playoffs. EJ has actually been surprisingly solid, and Middleton is a passable extra guy I guess, but we need Manson and G to beat Dallas in the 1st round

I get what you are saying and we probably are screwed if both are out, but I find that to be a pretty unlikely scenario.

I think the Avs can get by without one or the other. Especially if we get Landy back and playing well defensively to help out.

Middleton was solid. Made the right pass in his zone each time, and kept it simple in the OZ. He only had one sequence early in the 1st period where he actually had to defend though so it's not the best game to judge him. There will be much harder tests for sure. But as a no.7 I thought he did fine.

Yeah, we for sure need at least one of them back. Stars are a tough opponent in the 1st round, but they also have their issues on defense, especially if they’re not gonna have Heiskanen
