I miss Peter Baugh. I thought he was good at what he does, worked hard, and wrote interesting articles.

Landy missed him too apparently. Did his comeback interview with him in March. Nate seemed to like joking with him about his hat too. Never really seen him joke with a reporter like that.

They didn't have a writer for the Nuggets when they won their title, and haven't had one for years. They assigned the Utah writer to cover the Nuggets run.

It turns my stomach when the Minnesota guy (can't think of his name atm) writes anything about the Avs. That's just the rivalry though.

Yeah, I grew to like him, but his hockey knowledge was a little lacking. Straight forward reporting, with less opinion mixed in wasn't a bad thing though.

I've always thought it was important for a beat reporter to have a strong knowledge base because to me they are responsible for teaching the right things to casual fans. If they're wrong, or off on any regular basis it creates more idiots. To put it bluntly..

I respect Russo's knowledge, and don't even blame him for being an obvious hater, but I loath reading anything where he analyzes the Avs.

The TA ever allowing him to write about Colorado outside of when we play them was about as f***ed as MHH hiring a TML fan to run an Avs site.

Those are cement shoes level decisions lol.

When that guy came here he was coming from covering high school football (I think) and didn't know anything about the game of hockey. It was insulting at first but he got into it and was providing very good Avs coverage.

I miss him too. He was never truly replaced, neither at The Athletic nor anywhere else. Now, we mostly get part-time, amateur work from various people and for most of them it feels like it's just a side gig.

(Yes, I'm aware that I'm complaining a lot about that. I'll never get used to it).

Bringing this here from the GDT:

I really wish there was some interactive option to mute commentary and go solely with the on-ice and arena sounds.

I've wanted this for a while as well. The NHL should really ditch ESPN+ and think outside the box with this stuff.

In F1 the on board radio between drivers and the team is one of the more interesting things on the broadcast. With F1 TV you get to watch all the on board cams and listen to all the team radios if you want.

The NHL should have a deal with a TV network like TNT or ESPN for live games and then do their own app for on demand, with different commentary options, multiple live game camera options, lots of their own highly produced content, and 24/7 NHL Network highlight coverage on loop.

They'd be worried about something bad airing over the mics, but just pay a couple people, or get some interns to babysit the broadcast listening for really bad stuff, and give them a drop button to mute it. Shouldn't be a big deal. We already hear the odd swear word anyway.

I really think this would help them grow the game if they improve the product and provide lots of additional highly produced content that they should have the access to create.

[edit... This is the first time I've listend to AJ's side of the story. I'm not going to sit here and call him a liar but i would really like to hear from the other dude (which will only happen if this thing goes to court) or at least the writeup from a police blotter which would at least suggest whether the attacker actually knew AJ or had any reasons to actually suspect him of doing the shit he said. Again... the only lesson to be learned here is not to trust EL to have your back.]
