Teams with their own networks will fight mlb. Tv tooth and nail since it gives them a financial advantageWhen the NHL wanted to take over all the team websites, the Rangers fought it tooth and nail. Eventually, the Rangers lost the battle. MLB could try to do the same, but the fight would be MUCH bigger and more expensive for YES and NESN. SNY? Cohen may support the league as he doesn't own it, Wilpons still do. Before the team was sold, contract was written so SNY paid very little to the Mets for the rights.
This is gonna be a slow agonizing process where leagues pick up the distribution of a couple teams here and there over the next decade. I could see in 2030 most teams being distributed by their own leagues, with a few annoying holdouts like MSG, NESN, etc. When the NHL wanted to take over all the team websites, the Rangers fought it tooth and nail. I agree. But they are members of the league, the league can pass by-laws and each team only gets one vote.Teams with their own networks will fight mlb. Tv tooth and nail since it gives them a financial advantage
It raises a question then: how much longer will having two effective SN's in Chicago last before one blows up, or Marquee buys out and gets the rest? The new Hawks/Bulls/Sox channel is continuing to be a gongshow.

Sox are historically bad.
Hawks are likely going to be a lottery team again.
Bulls are.... the Bulls.
And unsurprisingly, Comcast and Google don't think that CHSN will be much of a ratings draw through 2025.
Marquee is ran by Sinclair. They won't be buying anything...It raises a question then: how much longer will having two effective SN's in Chicago last before one blows up, or Marquee buys out and gets the rest?
That I forgot. But still, it's a real playing chicken scenario, and who ultimately comes along to collect the pieces and have all of Chicago sports to themselves?Marquee is ran by Sinclair. They won't be buying anything...

Do they not have a deal with any other carrier? Seems like a major fumble on their part to let it go to the start of the season. That just puts more bargaining power in the hands of different carriers.
Not much movement on this. Hawks makes their regular season CHSN debut tomorrow, and the game will essentially be untelevised unless a last-minute deal gets done.
They have a deal with DirectTV but that's a tiny share of the market. You can actually pick it up on a physical antenna, but I don't expect Hawk fans to be rushing en masse to Radio Shack over the next week.Do they not have a deal with any other carrier?
