I think he is too inconsistent to keep around and I would be dangling him for some long term help only if I knew Ehlers was going to stick around though
I feel like it's mental because I still see him engaged physically (probably more than ever).

I'm at the point with Perfetti where my opinion on trading him isn't related to Ehlers anymore. If he's putting up 3 points in 2 months with Ehlers I'm not really convinced that he's going to replace any of that production if he's in a bigger role next year.
He's got the talent to play well in the first 1/3 of the season. But teams get better, structure gets stronger, team defense gets better etc as the season goes. Seems like as teams get more organized and structured he can't just over power them with skill, feeding off their mistakes.
I'm not trying to say he's going to be bad forever but the Jets need him to figure it out or he can't be on the ice when it matters (post tdl). If he doesn't have any offense, his defense isn't as good as we already have in the bottom 6 and he doesn't kill penalties, there really isn't much for him to do.

If it was for a good C with term I'm listening too.
Again, it seems like Chevy was right in bridging him when most of us wanted him signed long term.
Just think what if would be like around here if Chevy had signed him to a 7 x 7m deal!
I'm not saying that he will never be worth that but he isn't close right now.

dont think many would've agreed with 7x7m. maybe in the 5Mish range. i think most were expecting a bridge though.

It’s a tough run for Cole again and it’s a similar arc to last season. Not sure how it plays out but this was the season guys like Perfetti and Stanley were going to get more usage and “so far” that group have not taken the next step (Heinola hasn’t taken a step either but he is a part time player). I have zero interest in the guys from the AHL filling in since they are not top 6 options yet either.

Most people I saw on here thought something in the $5 million range would have been fine for a long-term contract. Perfetti and his agent wanted something comparable to other recent signees around the league coming off their entry level contracts in the $7 million - $8 million range, but the fact is Perfetti never had a single season in his first 3 years that was comparable to those other players ie. Tkachuk. that earned them their contacts.
We should be listening to trade offers for Perfetti and also Chevy should be using him as a trade chip. By now Chevy has enough of a read on what he has. No doubt Perfetti has value across the league. If he gets you 1/2 or more towards a long term #2 center option Chevy needs to act aggressively IMO.
Perfetti may never score another goal again.

If you're gonna trade Cole, at least run him with Schief and Connor for a while so he can put up some points (hopefully) to raise his value
Whatever we value him at, other teams will look at him and his stats and probably value him even less due to the fact that there's no emotional attachment to him
The fact that we're ready to deal him probably means that teams likely aren't stepping up with A+ offers either

As long as Ehlers situation is unresolved you don't move him. And that doesn't look to be negotiated until the offseason. With Chibrikov out, Lambert is the only top 6 guy available down on the farm, so Perfetti has at the very least a supplementary value if someone goes down between now and the TDL.
Realistically the timeline might be next year to move Lambert into a 2C spot. I don't know how much development time Yager will need either. Perfetti and Nino had a good game not that long ago. And that was with Kupari at center who is a black hole offensively.
I get the dissatisfaction with the results, but trading away young players is the Toronto thing to do. Maybe New York too, but I'm not sure that is the Jets way. Although I'd say there is a chance the Jets trade their Russian element away, and that has to do with things beyond hockey.
I don't take anyone for granted on next year's roster. One thing Chevy stated is that players want to win, and if the Jets are fragile enough to lay another egg in the playoffs, I think some guys go elsewhere in their search to win. I'd say the Jets drafting has them behind Minnesota and Utah in the division, in terms of impact players on the horizon. Dallas signs big names easily, and has hit on some draft picks in similar spots where the Jets didn't, and Colorado has two world class players to build around. St. Louis and Nashville will make moves, and draft in higher positions again. I think Winnipeg is caught between a rock and a hard place.
I just wonder if Connor and Lowry ever get to that point too, where they see an opportunity to win being outside of Winnipeg, because without them it's a rebuild, imo.

Maybe the Jets try to show him off, but that is a 2 way street if the player doesn’t take advantage of the extra opportunity.

62-13-27 would go hard imo, Nino has far more value on that second line than Vladdy or Iafallo, at least he can score, I also think Gabe would excel as a centre.

Yeah I'm with you, and I'd like to do it sooner if possible to give the player as long as possible to acclimatize.
I am very worried about Lowry and what a longer absence will mean. I don't really know what happened to him, is it a concussion?
We're already pretty thin on C (which is wild considering how many centers we have on the roster).
Agree on this line combo. I think Nino and Vilardi are ideal linemates for Ehlers.
I'd also be interested in seeing Perfetti with Scheif and Connor. Not sure he could do what Vilardi does but I do think he'd mesh. Of course there's a danger he fizzles there, and then what. But I have to imagine he'd put up points with them...
The number one issue with Gabe as C is his lack of footspeed. With Lowry out I'd try it anyways. I love Vilardi - he seems the perfect compliment to 81 and 55 who have almost telepathic communication and seem to play more with each other than the third person on their line. He thrives there because he has the individual skill to make things happen and filthy hands in tight.
Maybe putting Gabe at C will force him to become a bit more involved, I'd love to see it as an experiment at the very least. Ehlers could help him in some of the defensive aspects of C, like coming back to the front of our net at speed, etc.
Kind of like my above post - the point here is the same. Just as Vilardi is kind of a man on his own in a sense on that first line, I think Perfetti could do well there too. 55 and 81 can do all the heavy lifting, and Perfetti can be a bit of a defensive conscience, and kind of help those two do their thang. He'll get points just being on that line.
Either way, he needs to bear down on his chances. Vilardi makes the most of his opportunities, which is part of what makes him so effective as Brighteyes and KFC's third wheel.
i can't see the Jets trading Perfetti in-season. he's been disappointing again but it just doesn't seem like the Jets MO to do that imo. Off-season more likely when teams start trying to re-shape their rosters, cap flexibility etc.
personally think they'll ride out the remaining year of his contract, and see if there's large improvements next year. and then decide whether he's a long-term piece or a trade chip.
