NYR should drop all conversations right now. He hasn't been playing well since that 11.5 rumor hit. Some nights he's amazing. Other nights he doesn't scream highest paid goalie on an 8 year deal. I'm not saying he's easily replaceable because he's not, but the organization needs a hard look into the next 4-5 years and say "We can win with this group or we need to make some serious moves and can't do that with a 12M goalie".

that's a quick 4 off the top of my head
League aren't in the market for a 12mil+ goalie. They currently have 3 low cost options who are playing very solid. Their d is signed for several years and currently have in the top 5 or so GA in the league this year.

I know your takes are usually delusional and only benefit thr rangers but what exactly do you think the Leafs would be giving up here?

If they give him $11.5m-$12m, the cap probably won’t go up enough to be able to make moves to put this team over the top in the next 2-3 year.

That then gives the Rangers 2-3 years to win with. If they don’t win in that period, they’ll have an absolutely immovable contract to a mid-late 30’s goalie who will be on the decline.

This scenario sound familiar? If it does, it’s because it’s Hank, all over again.

I’m not saying Igor is replaceable by any means either, but if the comments about this being “the last dance” are true, that indicates change and a possible re-tool. It wouldn’t make sense to cave to Igor’s demands when a re-tool is needed.

Quite frankly, I don’t think they’re good enough to win. Regardless of outcome, if he wants $10m+, see ya.

Colorado Avalanche goalie situation is very concerning. Not sure they want to push the panic button but very tough to think but they will missing playoff without help in net.
Does include they want to move Rantanen ? No for sure

1. "League" ?
2. bold = yr op, also stop the hypocritical bs, every poster advocates first for their fave team
3. leafs would have to make best competitive offer or accept consequences of another yr of standing pat and if they fall short, again, it will not be pretty

The organization just repeats the process of relying on your goalie to carry you. It works until it doesn't and then you're left running it back and never really improving.

I understand the panic is not having a legit goalie. If you look at the UFA list for the next 2 years, it's terrible for goalies. Most teams don't just let good goalies walk to UFA, they trade them if they can't sign. Igor hitting the market would be absolutely insane for some teams. Whether they want to spend the 12m or not is another story. There's nothing available for the next 3 years outside of a trade if you're looking at a legit starter to mask some of your team flaws. With that said we have seen players have career years after not looking like starter caliber goalies, so you never know if a goalie can get hot at the right time.

Playing so terrible that he’s the Vezina favorite.

You have your mind made up and are too prideful to admit you’re wrong. You’ll look like a sucker when you try to replace the team’s best player and find out that the rest of the team isn’t that good and we’ll be on the playoff bubble with him.

Idk kind of being outplayed by his backup tbh.

You're thinking the Toronto Maple Leafs would have the cap space to give Shesterkin a contract that the Rangers can't or won't afford?

Good luck with that!

Bad stat watching. Quick is given a few soft starts here or there. Never gets any of the difficult games and like less than half of the workload. He also started last season fast, and then leveled off a little, so let’s relax on a four game sample hot take.

And I don’t know how it’s some insult that the team has a good backup. Has nothing to do with how a starter plays.

Stolarz has been even better than Shesterkin this season. Considering he makes like $10M less than Shesterkin wants, they would have no interest in trading for him. They also have Woll and two good prospects in the AHL. Goaltending is the least of their concerns.

Guilty as charged. Have both in fantasy and lately it's igor giving up a couple goals early in a game that lead to a bunch of GA, whereas Quick getting shutouts.

I mean that's debatable right now, no? And even in a debate, probably less than 50% calling him the Vezina favorite right now.

The rest of the team isn't that good and when they can't get carried to a cup with Igor, then what? You also have your mind made up. So drop the too prideful bs. There a very big difference in Igor at a price that works for the team and Igor at a price that doesn't work for the team, we can disagree on what that price is.

1. Leafs, oh no autocorrect the horror.

The idea the Leafs are standing pat because they won't gut their team for your soon to be overpaid goalie is adorable. Leafs won't even be picking up the phone let alone offering premium assist to your liking. Try actually looking at the roster and the standings. NYR has keep the privilege of overpaying shesty his 12mil+

Sure, it’s debatable. Not sure being second or third, if that’s the result, is some huge step down.

Yes, I’ve made up my mind that I want my team to re-sign our best player. Do you know how radical your position sounds? What percentage of NHL fans do you think believe their team shouldn’t re-sign their best player?

I could even understand it if your take was that the team can’t win, regardless, so tear it down and everyone can go, if they don’t fit a full rebuild. But thinking you can retool and win without the highest percentage to the winning puzzle is baffling to me.

Knock yourself out then w/running same crew, 1 yr older, hoping for better results.

Likely gonna require repurposing Marner into something signif that makes a dif

And Shesty in the 12 neighborhood may be short term overpayment b'c it is top top $, but over life of the deal it is not.

Where did I ever state my opinion was to retool and win?

Maybe you didn't, and if your intention is a full rebuild, fair enough. I can at least see where that perspective comes from.

But wouldn't that be the start of the discussion. "It's nothing against Igor, but we need to rebuild and you don't fit our window, regardless of salary" as opposed to "We can't afford that salary, we need to look at other options."

The second line of rhetoric, which is how I took your post and I take a lot of these types of posts, comes off as if we can find a way to subtract the best player off our roster and re-work mostly the same core into a winner in the next few years.
