Lol the f*** are they gonna do with Vesey? You ain’t winning with him.
He's an odd player. Had a pretty good season last year, did what they needed him to do. Bombed out towards the final weeks and continued that horrible play in the playoffs.

Ya, I remember seeing him play decently for the Rags last year and it surprised me, because he looked the definition of an AHL all-star in Buffalo. Just not quite quick enough, shot not quite good enough, avg iq, not physical, I was just very confused what he could possibly bring.

Still am, but as a 13th forward I’d suppose he’d work. How’s his defensive game?

Not really an issue there. He's more of a hard working player and not a coaster. He's been pretty consistent when it comes to providing the same results, especially on defense.

We're not dumb enough to play him on our top pair lol
For Colorado’s sake I hope they don’t. I’m just pointing out Lindgren was that bad next to a top 10 dman in the league. I can’t imagine how bad he will be next to a typical bottom pair dman.

I will point out he is a hard guy to hate. He really does sacrifice his body which is the only thing that is keeping him in the league at this point.

If he was playing with a top 10 defenseman in the league like Fox, I'm assuming it was a lot of hard minutes against the other teams' top lines or shutdown lines. Maybe a few shifts here and there with an advantageous matchup, but only until the other team can change.

On the Avs 2nd or 3rd pairing, he's not going to be on the ice very often against the other teams' shutdown line, and should only see a few ES shifts here and there against the other teams' top lines. Maybe he'll look better against the lesser competition.

Good point. He was put in positions that were out of his realm of capability

Vesey is a solid defensive winger who does a little bit of everything and won't hurt you whereever you put him in the lineup. What always has hurt him the most is his lack of finishing. He is the classic jack-of-all trades but master of none. (One of the big probelms with the rangers was they seemed to have a few of these guys in the lineup when a championchip team should only have like 1.) Is he physical enough for the 4th line? Fast enough/Skilled enough for the top6? The big reason why he was so good last year for the Rangers was his willingness to really start being physical.

Well moreover the Avs don’t need to find a top tier complimentary pairing with Makar as they found that with Toews.

I think the home run that Avs could get is for Lindgren to slot in 2nd pairing with Girard, but the most likely scenario is 3rd pairing with Malinski with a healthy Manson on the 2nd pair.

As an Avs fan, I’m mostly looking forward to seeing if lindgren can take top pk duties to spare Makar a bit of the load in that regard. If he can be successful in that role and play steady in a lesser role against lesser competition then I’m ok with the trade. Would have liked a surefire impact guy ala Jones but it wasn’t meant to be I suppose.

Looking forward to Lindgren getting a smaller role, going from a human penalty kill to just bad, and then people telling me I was wrong and he's good now.
You were wrong.

He’s good now.

No, but jokes aside having a much reduced role may have been the best thing that could happened to his career. He’s playing top 4 minutes right now with Manson’s injury, but hasn’t looked out of place so far in Colorado. Challenge with analyzing his style of play is his impact is best away from the puck, but I feel like he’s been great in a shutdown role as an ideal 3rd pairing or even 2nd pairing.

I realize that New York did take him off the top 2 already and he didn’t look even NHL caliber then, but it’s hitting different so far in Colorado. I think this trade is a win for Colorado so far and it’s a matter of seeing how the 2nd rounder pans out for New York.

Happy for him. He's got a lot of more potential earnings on the table if he can rejuvenate his NHL career. was certain he was bound for Europe and likely retired by 32. I'd just be very cautious about the term. But if he just plays out as a rental I'm pleased he's been popular over there.

Too many people on this webstie and a lot of them fall in the 'analytics people' circle on the Venn Diagram, do not account for or understand (or even believe in, perhaps) team dynamic/stability when accounting for how a player performs or might perform in the future.

Look at what the Panthers did with Kulikov, OEL, Montour and Mikkola last season. Half those players were written off and labeled as Replacement/Washed.

I was very iffy on whether RL would be an impactful player and contribute on COL but it's not shocking to see him doing well. There was a ton of Ranger fans who overreacted to him in every GDT calling him a beer leaguer/ECHL'er who couldn't pass, skate, defend, etc.

The Rangers were and are in a freefall and they are looking for a differnce maker at virtually every position other than goalie right now. When no one individual or the team as a whole can make a play, guys like Lindgren are going to get exposed.

Now that Lindgren is on a much better team with difference makers and guys who can carry load and make plays, he is contributing.

As for the trade from the Rangers' PoV, it's not even about getting value for the player as much as needing to change the core of guys they have and start looking for other players who can make a difference and try to turn the team around.

He and Fox weren't a good pair and the Avalanche might have better options for him as partners.

Fox is low-key a defensive defensemen. He's good in the offensive zone but he doesn't move the puck up the ice well at all. The Rangers keep putting him with other defensive defensemen who also can't do that because any nuance beyond "scores points" and "doesn't score points" is far too complicated for the Rangers.

I didn’t know a ton about Lindgren before the trade but he’s been really good so far. Outside of the couple goals he’s scored he’s been solid defensively. The standout play I saw was the other night against Ottawa. He turned over the puck behind the Avs net, but by the time the Sens got the puck out to the far circle Lindgren immediately closed in and stripped the puck and cleared it. So far so good, and hopefully we can find a way to re-sign him.
