I'd be surprised if they didn't at least have conversations about it internally and probably with other teams. Doesn't mean they might not just keep him and hope he decides to sign or they win a Cup but this team seeks out all opportunities. If they happen to find another team out there that has a player they covet that's signed longer term than Necas was or Rantanen is and they think fits well, I could absolutely see them doing that. I'm not putting it in the likely to happen category but it wouldn't shock me.

So it wasn’t a complete shock, according to the below snippet, the Canes’ front office asked Aho a while before the trade about Rantanen and Aho then asked Rantanen about that and he mentioned a trade was possible…

trade

Aho was asked a lot about the Rantanen trade to Carolina, especially since Rantanen was not made available to the media since he did not take the ice Monday. He mentioned how perhaps a week prior to the trade, he was asked questions about Rantanen by someone in the Hurricanes front office.

Aho said he didn’t think much of it, but he did call Rantanen to see if there was a possibility of him being traded, and Rantanen told him he had just finished talking to his agent and yes, it was a possibility.

But then Aho didn’t really think about it a whole lot.

But then this tweet was thrown into the Hurricanes’ group chat on the evening of Jan. 24 with the team in the New York area, preparing to face the Islanders the following day

Necas was at dinner with Aho and Freddy when Mzazek texted him to let him know something was afoot in Chicago and Hall was going to the Canes. And then the next part dropped.

Hello everyone with no NHL to enjoy or even NHL rumors

Just wanted to stop in and see what your thoughts on Hall are at this point?

In Chicago he would flash occasionally his previous self but 80-85% of the time he just looked cooked

Maybe closer to 60-65% (so a little better), but a similar dynamic.

Had a really energetic first game which made us all think we might be onto something here. But hasn’t done much since and the effort’s been hot and cold.

Forgot the effort part but yeah sometimes in Chicago there were noticeable controller disconnected and other moments that made one question his effort

Would have thought going to contender would have changed that but I guess it hasn't

In all fairness the whole team has been battling illness since then as well, I thought his first 2-3 games he was doing well considering he was new to the team but hard to judge too much since half the roster was a game-time decision every night the last week or two

Totally. I’m not “out” on Hall by any means, just saying what we’ve seen thus far.

If the negatives were all norovirus related who am I judge lol

not to mention he was one of the guys that missed time with said illness not long after he got here. I'm more than willing to write that off.

speaking of holy hell am I sick this weekend, if this is the crap the team had I can't blame them for looking way off.
