Am I the only one who remembers that Rantanen has been extremely bad for 2 seasons? Remember the Ismo drama last year?

The difference in Carolina is he doesn't get away with playing lazy ass hockey while collecting free Mack and empty netter points.

No pity from me. The team that will sign him will regret it pretty damn fast...it may also turn out into another Tavares situation where his contract automatically raises the AAV of every other core guy on the team.

I've said Lehhky's dad was right multiple times. Both before and after the trade.

Mikko is a poor man's Jagr. There's a ton to hate about his game, but the production is always there.

...except in Carolina so far. Jagr looked cooked in Washington but exploded again in New York. I think Carolina is similarly a horrible fit for Rants. If he goes to Edmonton, the West will be crapping its collective pants.

Can Edmonton even afford Rants? With Drai's 14M deal kicking in next year, and then McDavid will get 16+M the year after. And Nurse on 9.25 (LOL) they don't have a lot of space for another 12/13/14M contract.

That'd be an all in move for this year. This is kind of Edmontons last big hurrah with this core as their cap situation gets really ugly coming up and getting Mikko at a pretty cheap price would be a pretty smart move to really go for it.

I don't know that he would. A lot of Mikko's production comes from the PP in the exact spot Draisaitl plays, and we know he wouldn't push Draisaitl out of that position.

He might play 5v5 with 97 or 29, but I don't think he'd be on PP1 for the Oilers.

Oilers should focus on goaltending and defence before going all in on a guy like Rantanen

With that being said, 96 next to Leon is a scary thought

I read somewhere that Mikko has a 7-8 team no-trade clause and the conventional wisdom is that the teams on the list are all north of the 49th Parallel. I don't see Mikko going to Calgary, Edmonton or Winnipeg without those teams backing up the Brink's Truck to make it worth his while. And to offset the heating costs.

Mikko is like a power-hitting DH in baseball - throw it in his wheelhouse and he'll hit it to China. But he's not the 4-5 tool player Necas is.

Mikko getting moved again before next Friday would just be a pure rental for Edmonton, Dallas, or Vegas, or any number of teams. If the Canes, or another team, retain 50% of his remaining cap hit, they can get him for $2.3M and a cup run. Then he goes to Market on July 1.

Why can’t Mikko drive play anymore? Few years ago he carried the Avs when MacK would miss games with injuries. Is it laziness, effort level? I don’t get it.
Right now it's mostly the lack of power play production that's killing him, and it appears to have followed him to Carolina. To me, he's just not very mobile right now. I'd speculate there's an injury of some sort hampering him, he sat out a couple games IIRC right before the 4N Break and I THINK it was an LBI...can't remember for sure. But yeah, you look at him on the man-advantage in COL and he wasn't moving AT ALL. I'd argue that was a pretty big reason the power play went completely dead this season, but of course he's gone and it's still struggling so you can't pin it all on him.

I'd also say that whatever horrid shooting luck that has been plaguing the Avs as a whole this year, he also took with him to Raleigh.
