Well, he missed the last game or two due to ye olde LBI, so I wonder if something's been bothering him for a while. His mobility on the power play was nonexistent so it's possible.
I think that was due to being hit by a puck, so I don't think it applies to very much of "a while." Definitely could have been why last night was rough.

Carolina is just leaking info so Mikko takes the deal offered to him.
Given that he just got dealt here because of similar circumstances I'll bet he accepts their offer.
If Carolina wasn't prepared to offer him somewhere between $12.5-13 x 8 years then they were absolute fools to make this trade.
I feel like the deal would have been done already if he was going to sign with the Canes. I hope he tests FA

I really do not believe it would be in Mikko's interest to "test" the free market. He's done nothing to really show his stock is rising and is showing enough to make folks wonder if he's hit the point where he is starting to actually decline. I'm hoping for Mikko's sake that he hasn't spurned Carolina's offer.

I can't place a limit on a player with this kind of talent (even if it is mostly his ability to one-time a shot). But what I will say is that teams will be making their offers based on what Mikko has done since he's left Colorado, not what he did with Nate and Makar.

If he tests FA, I feel he is going to discouraged by the offers and may consider wanting to come back to us on a 7 year deal for less than what he was previously seeking. If I was CMac and could wing it I'd happily bring him back, but with Necas in the fold now and still not having a 2C I just don't see a situation where that can happen.

I loved having Mikko on the Avs but I do believe, much like with ROR, their paths have have gone separate directions for good.

I've definitely become more curious about what kind of contract he gets now. He's absolutely getting paid by someone, but it's become curiouser and curiouser.
What is he doing that is going to ensure he gets PAID?

He's moving completely in the wrong direction. I don't mean this negatively towards you..it's directed at me... What the hell am I missing that you are seeing that makes you believe his rate is going up or even still bordering getting PAID.

I just see a team looking at his previous seasons and playoffs, but they'll also need the right type of center.

he's still #8 all time in playoff points per game

The only way he is getting paid if he keeps anything like this up is if he takes a deal where a bottom tear team takes a big risk on him, even then I'm not sure that number is 11.5M to 12.5M

Unless that happens, he may legitimately need to take a one year deal, and blow the doors off next season taking his conditioning to the level it was previously.

Either way it's going to be crazy. It's a huge amount of pressure on 30ish games as a sample.

I don't envy the battle 2025 is going to be for him.

It's been multiple weeks. Canes know what his number is and are pretty desperate after losing multiple assests. Canes also learned from waiting too long with Jake Guentzel.

Well with his current play they'd be stupid to hand him even 11M/8..

Their owner is frugal as hell. They're not a team that's going to take a gamble while he's not looking like a natural fit.

Feel bad for Mikko. This trade migth have temporarily broken him like a bad breakup.

Like he was working on plan to propose to his dream girl and then she dumped him.

He's probably gonna need a long vaca, and mental reset in the off season, but I think he can bounce back.

The difference is that his girl(Avs) actually proposed to him(contract extension), but he thought he could score a hotter chick(more $$).

Nah, she let herself go with an underpayment, and he was still willing to hitch up long term, rather than find a super model on the open market.

(which thread are we in again?)

He's also be smart to hit the gym and demonstrate some GAF.
Honestly watching him lately I'm curious about how close the decline is. Modern NHL is built on speed and Mikko's a big guy. He's got the skill to be a difference maker in the offensive zone, but in 2-3 years is he going to be able to keep up the pace? It's not like his game is focused on strong positioning. He should always thrive in a cycle-dominant system and coming in late on the rush but I wonder if this is ultimately why CMac pulled the trigger

I don't know. They are a bit desperate to make a deal. It won't look good to lose couple stars like this. It's a bit similar to what happened to Columbus. They traded for Duchene and other stars I think but couldn't keep any of them. Kinda bad look on your organisation. Then they somehow signed Gadreau though. :D

I think Mikko won't stay, unless they hit a hot streak soon(a lot good vibes would help). Good chance they trade him again. It wouldn't shock me at all.
