Sakic should have made Carolina include Aho in the deal. Imagine getting both Necas and Aho in the deal? Rants is a 100 plus point player and we wanted we could have gotten even more then we agreed.
Should've just called Edmonton and asked for McDavid and Draisaitl for Rantanen. Stupid Sakic.Sakic should have made Carolina include Aho in the deal. Imagine getting both Necas and Aho in the deal? Rants is a 100 plus point player and we wanted we could have gotten even more then we agreed.
Well that's fitting for a Necas thread.Accidental post

The skill and wheels I'm seeing on Necas are real. He can't even really be that comfortable yet but he's getting chances and making that first line even scarier than with Rants on it. This trade could work out to be incredible even if Rants starts to score like his old self.If this really is Marty Necas in Colorado going forward and not just some random hot streak. Then the Canes traded the better player, Drury and pics for a pending UFA who currently doesn't even look like he fits their system that well.
I think Landy is/ was always the better playerSorry, why would we project based on 7 previous years instead of the most recent 2 years?
How does that make any sense?
I don’t think anybody discredits what Rantanen achieved as an Av. He’s the best winger in the history of this franchise. No doubt. Are we supposed to just sit on the past instead of focusing on the future?
The Rantanen we’ve seen since we won the Cup is more likely to be the Rantanen we see moving forward. That’s normal.
The wheels and skill are here to stay. Especially with the skating Necas is in elite company. The skill and wheels I'm seeing on Necas are real. He was their best high ceiling trade bait, they must have thought Rantanen was a distinct level up from him. It might turn out that Necas just needed linemates who can keep up with him to unlock what he can be. You see so many high skill guys that reach their floor and not their ceiling, and quite a few who bust, so rescuing one who can become a star in a different situation is risky but definitely an art. Remember we got Nuke when he was at his lowest value, he's like the extreme example of this but it did happen here so there's precedent. Necas was having a fine season before he got here so he wasn't low in value, except maybe a bit to Carolina? Sure looks like they screwed up.The wheels and skill are here to stay. Just makes you wonder why the Canes were so hellbent on trading the guy. They been shopping him for some time now.
Because the last negotiations really were sour, and there was a good chance that Necas had already decided that he would eventually move on from Caroline after his current deal. So if the Canes knew they could not sign Necas during the summer, he would be moved in any case. Getting Rantanen back, is not actually bad value.Just makes you wonder why the Canes were so hellbent on trading the guy. They been shopping him for some time now.

Assuming Necas can maintain the same level of play away from Mack as he can with or if he can also play 2C then what kind of salary do you think he’d command with the cap going up? That kind of versatility at that level is something you don’t often see.I've seen a lot of posts about trying Necas at 2C, and if he really does want to play C, then that is worth a try at least.
But there's also a pretty good chance he might be able to greatly improve our 2C situation without playing C. He's been working great on a line with Mackinnon, and the chemistry there is already great, and still improving. But he can clearly be a puck carrier and playmaker from W position as well, and I hope they at least try him on wing away from Mackinnon after the break.
Who know for sure which line combos end up providing the best 1-2 punch, but we've got multiple elite skaters/puck carriers, and they don't all have to be on the ice at once.
We do miss that one timer on the PP though. Pettersson would look good there.I loved Miko while he was here, but I assume I am not the only one following the canes stat sheets, hoping to see no points for Miko, so I can feel we won the trade...
Necas is perfect for this team. Miko brought a lot, but Necas gives all effort and he really fits playing with Mac.
We are down a power forward now though, so hoping Nuke is back soon, and doesn't f*** up again like the last few years.
