Seriously though, I would be unfit and just would have absolutely no interest in doing the job. I am really glad that some do and the ones that do here are all damn good peeps to boot. Win, win...as long as I keep my mouth in check.

I've been using the "I see what you did there" .gif forever too. Think once I finally catch up on all the posts here I'll check and see if it's on streaming somewhere. Might be fun change for the night.

I love horror, but nothing's really scared me other than doctor's visits in over a decade now. The slasher stuff is just gross. Yes, torture porn like the Saw movies can make me squirm and uncomfortable as all get out...but scared? Not reatlly ever.

The Descent I think was the most modern movie to really give me a good scare. It wasn't the last 30 minutes when the cannibals become the terror. I didn't care for that at all. It was the clausterphobia and omniprensent dread that just kept building every moment they were underground. The build of tension was damn near perfect. I just didn't care for the payoff.

Below is another good "horror" movie. It's a WWII submarine movie. The captain has died, the viewer is not certain of all the details. They've rescued survivors of a ship and have brought a female on board (bad omen, I guess?...holy shit, we would have reacted differently in the 90s). But anyways, the boat is having issues... and you are left to wonder for a long time if it is indeed haunted or if the crew is just losing it.

I like the horror that messes with the mind. Showing gruesome stuff for shock is just that... cheap shock. It surves a purpose, I do enjoy the Toxic Avenger movies and such from time to time. But Hollywood has forgotten one simple fact...what we conjur in our imagination is much more horrific than what they are prepared to show us in an R rated movie. The less you show, the more impact it can actually have. Treat your audience with respect and don't feed them everything.

I really need to see the new Nosferatu movie. I've heard good things about it and the dread that it builds. I absjolutely loved the Lighthouse and enjoyed the Northman so I'm interested to see what he's done with this one.

Most suck with a weak story, stupidity, and just gore for those that enjoy it.

American Psycho is on a whole other level. My favorite scary movie is the history movie of the Excocist movies which is Excocist The Beginning.

I've seen enough in life that I don't really need the gore. If I have to start critiquing how bodies actually come apart I'm changing it.

Just finished it. Apparently Prime has what is callled an extended version. It didn't feel long to me at all. Thought some scenes lasted longer than necessary but I suppose that was the point, it was uncomfortable to watch.

Incredibly acted by all involved. When I saw Wilem Dafoe's name pop up in the opening credits I got pumped. When he introduced himself as the detective I got ready for some real cat and mouse fun and it ultimately went absolutely nowhere. That was a big let down. Also, there was simply nothing likeable about Patrick, Paul, Timothy, Craig or anyone else other than maybe his secratary Jean/Gene? So it was kinda hard to do anything other than hope to see him fall and then...yeah.

Oh, if I spoiled it for you, dude. Don't freak out when Dumbledore gets 86'd. Or when Girard stabs Frodo in the back with Sting to shove him over the edge in Mt. Doom in Amazon's LotR reboot.

Good movie, glad I watched. Will never watch it again most likely. But there were some down right funny/outrageous lines that will probalby stick in the old melon for a few weeks at least.

I'm the same, absolutely love horror movies, but I've found that a lot of the recent ones to be rather bland. Agree with you on The Descent, that was one of my favourite horrors, and I think a big part of that was seeing it in the theatre. Completely dark space, good sound system, really got you immersed. I think I've been spooked more with a good thriller than the gore-based horror films, or the ones with obvious jump scare setups.

Where I've enjoyed horror as of late is the well done horror satires. Cabin in the Woods, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Behind the Mask the Rise of Leslie Vernon, Shaun of the Dead...movies like that have really hit the spot.

I think I got good scare from 28 Days later. The fast zombies were not something I knew was a thing, so that whole movie was kind of mind blowing to me. Also parts of the early seasons of TWD had some genuine horror but it very quickly fadely.

I was just recently given the recommendation of The Haunting anthology on netflix I think. So, I'll give that a go.

But truly for creeps and horror, nothing beats a well used novel. Stephen King's early stuff can still make me jump whenever we get water impingmenet in the pipes and I'm reading late at night. I mean good jumps that get me to nervously chuckle afterwards.

Horror movie discussion!?

(Okay, okay...calm down @shadow1...breathe...)

I think there are a lot of new horror movies that are good-to-very good. Off the top of my head, Barbarian (2022), Smile (2022), and The Invisible Man (2020) were all effectively scary without making you lose your lunch (some gore, but nothing excessive). Going back a little further, It Follows (2014) is a stone cold classic.

Anyway... go Avs! :witch:
