Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

This was a great return. Pending UFA without an extension in place. It's one of the biggest hauls ever for such a player.

It was time to move on. The team needs depth, Mikko is not getting any better and his next contract will be a mammoth deal. I applaud the balls CMac has to pull the trigger.
Yeah, this is very true. We had seen the peak of Mikko. He will be a very good player for years to come, but probably not getting better. He regressed a lot in the last two seasons, despite putting up points. I do believe he can regain his form in Carolina, with a combination of less (but more effective) minutes and just a change of scenery.

But Necas has another level in terms of production, now that he plays with MacKinnon and Makar. If we can re-sign him for single digits in the summer (shouldn't be out of the question), that's tremendous value for this trade.

If you can actually understand what you read, Kypreos is in no way contradicting those reports.

Let me spell it out for you: 12.25M for an example could've been what Rantanen wanted, but the Avs were not willing to go there.

Like I said earlier, people can choose to believe what they want (that's what I do). Kypreos is reliable, and has been pretty spot on when it comes to his reporting over the last few years.

"The Avalanche never wavered from David Pastrnak's 11.25M."

This is so obviously an agent doing damage control for his pissed off client.

Lol. So multiple reporters have claimed Avs were willing to make him the highest paid winger but Kypreos says that couldn't be further from the truth?

Sounds like somebody's agent is doing damage control.
"the Avalanche never really wavered from using David Pastrnak’s $11.25-million AAV as a comparable"

So basically every other "insider" says the AVS were willing to make Rants the highest paid winger for now (until some idiots of GM hand out the next crazy contracts), but no, Kypreos has the truth Mikko´s agent "told" him....

Ok. i guess we never know...

We just have to wait a few days and Mikko will become the sole victim of this trade, and the victim to a "ruthless GM" that wanted him gone at all costs.... And his agents only wanted to protect him at all costs.....Yadda yadda yadda.....

Look, i will always love the big Moose for what he brought to the AVS and the cup in 2022. He will always be remembered for that.

But i have a hard time to feel sorry for a player that allready earned big money, held out the first time as a RFA to cash in (lets remember, he got way more paid than the best player on this team at that time) and who simply overplayed his hands or probably never made it clear to his agents that he wants to stay in Denver. So his agent went out, played the UFA-card and wanted to play the same waiting-game again when Mikko was RFA and this time MacFarland and the AVS had none of it, called his bluff, and sent his client to Carolina.

If Mikko really was blindsided by this trade, he is either not that clever, or he should have a long talk to his agent who, imho, f***ed this up in a major way....

Curious, what his agent will advise him now... I expected Rants to sign in Carolina pretty quick, but the longer this last, i really start to believe he goes straight to UFA and cashes in. And yes, there will be every team, who has the cap available, lined up to get him. And some idiots will even offer 14 Mill, trust me, it will happen if Mikko hits UFA....

Whats done is done and i really wish Rants all the best. But CMac did whats best for the team and saw the writting on the wall that running it back with this core wont win us shit without capable depth. And he made the deal....It hurts, it sucks, but sometimes in life you have to decide against your emotion.....

I do not want to end up like Toronto.....

IMO, the Avs shouldn't even be paying 11 AAV for wingers. They need to stay in the 5-9 million range and when you look at all their other wingers Necas [6.5], Nuke [6.125], Lehkonen [4.5] it seems like cMac agrees. Hell, even Landeskog is only at 7 and the Avs buckled on his contract negotiation.

MacKinnon and Makar are going to be so highly paid that they need to keep the wingers affordable to retain depth. It really would have helped if Mitts could have worked out at 2C with that 5.75 price tag. Now they're probably going to need to spend more cap room and assets to find a new 2C.

I mean it doesn't really contradict what we've heard. He just said using Pastrnak was comparable. Accounting for the rising cap 11.75M sound like where he would be.

Yeah, but i really think even 12 Mill would have done it and Rants would be an AV for life.

His agent gets flak-fire for how he advised his client and now wants to turn CMac and the AVs into the villians.

I have no doubt Rants would have given the AVS a "discount". But i still think he was set on Mac´s money.
They dont split over 250.000 bucks....

"the Avalanche never really wavered" from Pastrnak's deal. I think it's easy to say this is his agent trying to save face (probably) but I could quite easily believe what he's saying. Rantanen's reaction (and our players' reactions) (and our former players' reactions) isn't really that of someone who's just chasing money.

Biz nailed it on TNT last night. Rants has looked bad in Carolina. Thats a different group of players. He'll come around at some point, but holy FAFO lol. I'm not saying the Avs have recovered entirely yet either, but overall the team depth is better and Necas is a perfect fit.

I don't think this is on his agent at all. I think his agent probably kept him in the loop. I think Rants was the one who wanted the bag. His agent has made deals with the Avs recently. He might've said "hey you can get 14M on the open market". But ultimately it's pretty clear to me Rants wanted more than the Avs were offering, likely more than Mack. Biz and people who I think probably have a better beat on it than Andy Strickland are all saying this was Rants decision to be paid more than Mack.

His agent is trying to probably keep his client and doubling down on the Rantanen line. For better or worst, I don't think the Avs should or will engage in the back and forth save face campaign. I'm happy for him as a player. Get your pay day. I'm also glad the Avs got some value and will have a deeper team for it.

To be fair he's looked bad here for the past one and a half season already but somehow still managed to put up 100+ points.

Impossible to tell if it was Mikko greedment or a misplay by his agent. Maybe a little of both. What is pretty clear is that they both totally misread CMac and the Avs.

They simply thought they had all the leverage when it was the other way around. Still early, but if Mikko continues to pout and Marty "The Party" Necas continues to produce, maybe CMac fleeced Carolina. If the Canes can't/won't resign Mikko? Might be the biggest heist since Lufthansa and here's Avs management in June . . .

Last time Mikko scored a goal was January 9th vs Minnesota. He's on a bit of a slump. He's getting chances in Carolina though.

That Lazer accuracy just hasn't been there.

Watch this is perfectly said about rantanens play

Also, new rumor Oilers looking to sign Rantanen, wow

About Cmac - if he was truly to maximize the value, was it not a blunder to not to sign a year go already

Also if they would like to maximize the value why not sign Mikko and trade with no NMC?

I think this a complete blunder and closing the window

Because you know it takes two to get a deal done right? What makes you think Rantanen would've asked for anything less a year ago? If we weren't willing to give him what he wants now what makes you think we would've a year ago?

Also not sure if you know this but he wasn't eligible for an extension until July 1st 2024.

Also LMAO not sure what rumors you read but the Oilers are not signing Rantanen. They just signed Draisaitl to 14M and McDavid will ask for at least 15.

Closes the window? How many teams carry 3 elite players in their primes? The Avs have clearly needed depth, something that is hard to pay for when you're icing 3 top 10 guys. And if that depth includes guys like Nichushkin, Lehkonen, and Necas....
Hoo boy.

I mean yeah, he gets lined up for perfect shots.

Find me a highlight of how often he's driving in and ripping a shot from a rush on his own in the last 2 years.

He used to be good for 4-5 sick backhands off power moves on a rush. Can't even remember one honestly. He's really stopped being able to get around players when they press on him.

If Kyper is correct and Mikko did indeed tell management he was willing to sign below Nathan Mackinnon’s contract, I’d be very very disappointed in Avs management for not getting a deal done. Based on everything else he said in that article though, I’d expect it to be false.

I would be disappointed, but it might've been the right call anyway. There are good reasons why Rantanen shouldn't make more than 11M for this Avs team anyways.

He's broken, gonna cost him some money. Canes are going nowhere without a 2C and their goaltending

He was becoming a bit of a garbage collector and point specialist only. Dodged a bullet really
