Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

They didn't "read the room" very well because this type of trade hasn't happened in over 30 years. Mikko Rantanen wasn't even born when a trade of this magnitude took place. So yeah, no wonder him or his agent "didn't read the room", especially when they had previous indication about how the club operates when Landeskog deal went to the wire. And the rest of the league, where we've seen big name free agents walk, or get a deal done much later. They thought they had time, and the Avs obviously didn't confront them about it.
Then they are both idiots or children.

The Avs are in Long Island to play the Islanders.

The Hurricanes are in New York to face the Rangers.

I find it absolutely PATHETIC that Montano would choose to go watch Mikko practice instead of watching/covering the Avs practice today. Like, pathetic.

* "It's pathetic that an Avs reporter would go to another teams practice for a story"

You're probably right. I guess I just don't give a f*** about anybody once they're not on the Avs. I'd rather get updates on our team than anything else.

FWIW, looks like Meghan didn't even make the trip. Stayed back in Denver doing shows with some other girl. Colleen Flynn and Bailey Curtis stayed in Denver. TMV, Deen, etc. didn't seem to go to practice today either. Vogt is always in Denver and gave the Kylington/Nuke update. Adrian Hernandez is probably still crying about Mikko.

Only McGahey, our friggin' play-by-play for Altitude radio, and Masisak went to practice.

* "I don't care about non-Avs players!"

* Posts interview from "pathetic" journalist of a non-Avs player.

Lol

Love you bro

Hah, is there anything more annoying than seeing ex-Avs light us up every time we play them? (Looking at you, Duchene)
Yes.

I posted this on social media, but nothing, and I mean NOTHING, annoys me more than no-name players who show up and turn into Wayne f***in' Gretzky when they see burgundy jerseys on the ice. Colton Sissons. Petr Mrazek. There are a couple others, I just can't quite recall their names. I call it the "Clarke Wilm Effect," because NOTHING frustrated me more than that hairy slobbery f*** goin' full throttle every time he was on the ice against the Avalanche. Didn't matter if he was a Flame or a Pred, that stupid hillbilly werewolf dominated every time he took to the ice.

It ain't exactly fun seeing Duchene get a series-winning goal, no, but it's to be fully expected. He's still a good hockey player and like anyone in his situation, wants to stick it to his old team. And it sure as hell is going to happen with Mikko the next time he faces the Avs. That won't be fun, but it doesn't bother me a ton. It's the decidedly less-talented scrubs who turn into superstars whenever they face the Avs that drives me up the wall.

Haha true. I feel like someone who "hasn't scored in 6 months" always turns up to pot a goal against us. We're streak breakers.

Carrick is the latest Av killer. Seguin always seems to slap us around, same with Kopitar. Pavelski was always scoring too, I'm so glad he's finally retired. I'm sure there are a ton more, but I can't remember

Uuuuuugggghhhh...Pavelski. God did I ever hate that guy. Glad that shit-talking goof never got his name on the Cup as a player...though I will always wonder what could've been had the Avs gotten him and just put him in front of the net on the power play with Mikko, Nate, and Cale firing away at the net.

After seeing more info coming out about the trade here is my personal take:

I believe the Avs did tell Mikko's camp that it was as high as they wanted to go but Mikko's camp believed it was negotiation tactics. They believe it would go like the Landy's and Mack's talks. That is why he said he thought he had more time. They thought it would go to at least the TDL or possibly to the end of June and the Avs would finally have to cave for at least 12.5M.

However I'll take it even further...I believe also that the Avs were sure the 11.75M would be initially refused as a negotiation tactic by Mikko's camp and that is why they offered it but.......here it goes.......they did not want to even pay that and they used that refusal as the opportunity to go ahead with the trade. They are now able to say they wanted to make him the highest paid W but also use that refusal as an excuse to walk away from it.

I think they wanted to do it in the summer but at the time they wanted a lot more than Necas and Drury because Necas hadn't broken out yet. CAR couldn't do it for that much but now that Necas broke out the Avs were OK to do it.

I think the Florida/Calgary trade changed a lot of things. CMac saw Florida trade one of their star players and go on to win a Stanley Cup. It proved to them that if you get the right pieces you can stay a contender and keep your window opened longer. That remains to be seen with the Avs obviously but that trade was a proof that it can be done. They knew they couldn't afford quality goaltending and depth down the lineup with keeping Mikko even at 11.75M not for the next few years anyway especially with Makar's extension coming up. Extending Necas should be possible with the cap going up as much as it is reported.

The Avs surprised Mikko's camp with an early trade because they didn't want to give them an opportunity to take that 11.75M offer.

Yeah, that seems pretty legit. Especially if they were feeling the same way about his play as many of us. We know they have analytics we don't too.

Pavs and David Perron

After 3 (COL), 2 (CAR) games (ha!):
Necas & Drury combined: 2+4
Rantanen & Hall combined: 0+2

So far a successful trade.
Is it though? You can’t really judge this trade till Cmac makes the subsequent moves to give the team depth… I don’t think the team is necessarily better than it was pre trade.

The team is maybe marginally better on paper, but the on-ice product is still 1st round exit.

If we really want to boil it down, the true answer to whether or not this was a successful trade only comes in years after this. Did we win another cup or come close to one? No? Then it's a failed trade. Not necessarily because Necas (and other moves) have failed and we would've been better off with Rantanen, but at least with Rantanen it would've been nice in terms of legacy.

Yeah but now we have a lot of open space. This was the opening move.
Correct. If Cmac bungles the following moves and doesn't improve the depth than I think it's a failed trade. People have been clamoring for depth forever and moving Rants is going to be a positive, but Cmac still has to get depth additions that are actually good. Which I think is going to be a harder task than people realize.

honestly just happy we got some draft picks back and some manueverability. But that's the homer HF Board in me saying that. We always overrate cap space + draft picks on the internet. FWIW though if signing Mikko at $12M+ was in any way going to obstruct us from being able to sign Maker, then asta la vista Mikko...no question at all in my mind.

Absolutely. We kinda failed last year too even though moves felt good at the beginning. We'll see.
