Technically yes, but it's very small.

If Mikko doesn't produce it's even more likely, and it won't be at that number.

For the record I'm not wishing that on him, but points are not going to come quite as easy. That's a fact.

Mikko's interview is pretty interesting after the Canes game yesterday.

You can tell there's genuine shell shock still happening with him. He obviously never expected to be traded and absolutely expected to get a deal done with the Avs in the end.

Definitely makes you think his agent f***ed him over on this one by trying to play hard ball. It really probably was a situation where the Agent was continuing to demand $14M, Avs were in the $11M range(And IMO probably willing to go up to $12M), but the Agent continuing to hold strong at that Draisaitl number forced the Avs hand despite Mikko himself knowing he would have taken below that number if it came to it.

The real reality in this situation is that CMac might very well be as savvy and as cutthroat as the guys in Vegas and Tampa Bay.... Which is an extremely welcomed sign to me. Dont f*** around with this guy.

CNap was a meme before last years deadline. I think we can safely say goodbye to that now. Probably one of the more active GMs in the league. Maybe it won't work, but he certainly isn't shy to give it a shot. I love it.

Something to chew on here. These are the last three seasons of Nate and Mikko at 5v5. Basically, without MacKinnon, Rantanen has struggled. MacKinnon without Rantanen? Not really.

MacKinnon is the straw that stirs the drink, and they know it.

Good post.

As much as we hated to see this. It gave this team a proper shake and now we have real possibility to make this team actually better. Maybe it doesn't work out maybe it does but at least we have a chance. Otherwise we were handcuffed. We couldn't make any changes because all the extra money would have gone to Rantanen.

It's a gamble for sure, but as much as I hate it, it also gives me a bit more hope for the better.

We still have few issues we need answers;

Nuke and Landy. These issues need to be solved for good.

But I think with Landy we are super close. I think these playoffs are his last chance most likely.

Nuke is on going issue. Should I stay or should I go. Analytics say please don't go, but the mind says f*** off.

Yeah, I think it's was a wakeup call for the team and Mikko.

For me, this team goes as 29, 8 and 13 go. Mack and Makar are obvious, but we’ve seen the clear difference of this team when Nuke is playing vs Nuke not playing.

For all the issues, this team needs Nuke.

Yeah, if Landeskog isn't here, Nuke is the only thing that replaces him adequately.

Landeskog healthy was more important than Mikko, and people lost sight of that because Nuke existed.

Yeah, Mack didn't need Rantanen to produce but the opposite wasn't true. Very curious to see the kind of numbers he's going to have in Carolina.

Yo también

Reality is that he has played 20 games for us this season. He is a beast but you shouldnt count on him in any way after the cup.

Just trade him for a player when iron is hot to be honest.

I have to admit I'd be quite happy to see Rantanen re-sign here in the summer for 12.59 million. My only regret is that this would happen to a relatively irrelevant outfit like the Hurricanes. If he could do that to an Edmonton, a Vancouver, the wailing from their fans would sustain me for years.

He took it personally 😂 It worked.

Now all he needs to do is the right moves. Goaltenders he did well.

I think Mikko had grown very complacent with MacKinnon during the last few years. If we take those same stats from 21-23, the dropoff isn't big at all. Those were the years when Mikko took this team on its back when MacKinnon was injured etc. So in that sense, the trade also probably made sense if CMac sensed we were not going to get that dominant Mikko back, but just this version that enjoys the points MacKinnon and Makar create.

I think Mikko will continue to produce, because this trade is a wakeup call for him as well. He wants to show up. And while he loses MacKinnon and Makar, he still has plenty of good players around him.

Aho should be a great fit for him. He will put up impressive point totals for sure. It's not about that though. It's about the overall game. It's been on a downhill for a while but maybe he needed fresh start. That's all. Interesting times for sure!
