Confirmed with Link: [COL, CAR, CHI] Rantanen-Hall to CAR, Necas-Drury-25 2nd-26 4th to COL, Chi 25 3rd to Chi (Ret 50% on Mikko)

Still don't know how to feel... The team is currently worse and we didn't gain that much cap flexibility for this season. CMac has to hit with the subsequent moves because cap space is nice, but he has to actually add some useful and meaningful depth to get this team to a contender level now.

Another crazy stat I just discovered... Of the 23 guys that played games for us in the 2022 Cup run, only 8 remain on the team right now, 9 if you include Landy.
Think about how many in the current lineup has never played with Landy.

And how many who are already gone never played with him like Fourgiev.

Its definately been a while. He better come back before the 2nd game of 25/26 season...

I noticed that you have also falsely shouted that 14mil number around.

Isn't it good to have some facts around?
Because 80% of posters here are shouting rumours, false narratives and making polls that Mikko wanted 14mil from the Avs, here is something from the only guy who has constant solid info from this organization.

Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic:

I hate to mention it, but you may wanna read what you post before commenting on it. The fact here is that Lebrun, your only trusted source, says in the article you have used as your smoking gun literally says “ I don’t think Rantanen was STUCK at $14 million a year.”

Kinda insinuates he’s asking for $14 million a year. Just because that may not be the final number does not mean he ain’t looking for it. Silly little facts.

I was fine from that, the Valentine's Day Massacre was what got me
Mine was brunette ending patty’s career 😢

This sucks. I know Mikko had his lazy ass moments and fell down to his knees more than Lilly Phillips but f***en hell the guy is so talented and hes home grown. I think the fact hes home grown makes it hard. Its going to take a long time to get over this and im not sure im going too....unless the Avs win a cup with Necas or the result of a Necas trade.

Rantanen on a Finnish interview: (translation by me)
"I was ready to take a deal below my market value."

Then on a question about the media coming to the conclusion that his ask was too high for Colorado:
"I don't think that's correct. I don't want to talk about specific sums, but I was ready to go below my market price. That's why the trade came as a surprise."

"I honestly didn't believe I would get traded. I strongly believed that we'd re-sign at some point, but they chose otherwise."

"I'm not sad. It's time to look forwards."

We have some serious cap room now.

The dudes (non UFA's and RFA's) that would be here for the 2025-26 season (12+6+2, Drouin included at 5.0, no Landeskog) would THEN command a cap hit of 86.9

But THIS season those 20 players only hit 80.1.

That COULD mean Landy is on his way back OR that we might add a 5-6 million dollar player for the playoffs.

Stay cool.

Uhm, we just added like 2M to the cap by trading Rantanen, assuming a guy like Innala is sent down. Rantanen was 9.25, Necas + Drury is 8.25

MacFarland did in Denver what Dubas was not willing to do in Toronto: Trade away a franchise-player in his prime for the better of the team (at least in his opinion).

He made the deal for the franchise, even if it makes him the villain.

That Doofus Dubas on the other side....

This trade not only shock the AVS. And maybe other GM soon follow and change someting regarding their holdouts. Would be very entertaining if Marner will be next in line..... And it will send a message to the players and agents: No one is safe or bigger than the team. You wanna gamble, go ahead and find out soon....

Really sad to watch and hear Rants talk. That is a "broken man" right there. Same for Mack and Bednar..... A trade that leaves so many sad men behind......

A trade that could have been avoided, imho. But here we are........

Take emotions out of it and the reality is we weren't good enough of a team this year even with 96 in the lineup.

All this trade does is open new pathways forward to better our team as opposed to the previous binary path of pay Mikko and lose all our depth or lose Mikko for nothing. It's on management to execute now, but making this trade as difficult as it is to digest, is the correct decision.

Don’t ask for more money than Nathan Mackinnon who’s contract only kicked in last season.

That’s my advice for lesser quality hockey players who don’t want to get traded.

Friedman said last night the Avs were prepared to make him the highest paid winger in the NHL. The reports are that they’ve already offered 11.75. I don’t know if it’s Rantanen’s fault or the agent but at least we can sit here as Avs fans knowing the fault wasn’t within the Avs front office.

The salary cap is going to be like 14M more than when MacKinnon's deal kicked in.

I do think, that it's ok for the Avs to hold firm on MacKinnon cap. But if the highest they were ever going to get was 11.75, yeah I'm sorry, that's not good enough when you look at other recent winger contracts.

I think if I were Rantanen I’d probably fire my agent. The issue these days is that these players trust their agents to do the work so they can focus on hockey, then they get blindsided by a trade when all along they just want to stay.

I’m with the rest of you though. If there’s a corresponding move here, it might make more sense. Avs were too top heavy, and they need some more scoring depth. I thought Necas looked dangerous at times yesterday, just totally out of sync. That will get better as time goes on, and Necas will undoubtedly be a great time.

Still really hurts.

Well I hope those few extra millions on top of a hundred million or so will make him happier than staying with us.
