A minimal piece but much-overlooked part of this deal is that the Avs get another right-handed forward. Since JTC left they've only had LOC and Mack (and only Mack in the POs) regularly in the top-9.

It seems like a small thing but makes them much more unpredictable offensively. Otherwise you can basically close off the right side of the ice and neutralize their forehands (Makar adds a dimension but still)

Just removing Mikko makes us more unpredictable offensively, really. He was good enough to overcome that, but you look at the PP lately and it's hard to believe it will get worse now because it's been essentially impotent. This also has to kick the team in the ass a bit -- Mikko was gold standard Av stud for a long time.

You guys are going to love Necas, he’s a tailor made perfect fit to play with MacK and I think it’ll work out to a degree where the upgrade(s) you can make to the roster with the long term savings of a Necas contract vs a Rantanen contract will end up being a net positive for your group.

You'll love Mikko too, and hate him..

It's like being bipolar truly the highest of highs, and only the Bambi moments make you laugh during the lows.

Then he'll pick a corner from an insane angle on the PP two or three times in the game.

He's worth it, but get ready for the ride. He can be the guy that gets that goal at the right time though. You have your game breaker.

What makes him great is his size and hands. If he had a great motor and could actually skate, he’d be the best player in the league.

The guys hands are incredible. Passing, shooting, IQ. Gifted.

You’re gonna simultaneously love and hate Rantanen. When he’s on he is unstoppable. When he’s not; he still puts up points, but drives you insane with looking like he’s not trying.

Even during the cup winning season, Rantanen was practically invisible for good chunks of rounds 1 & 2. However he turned it on for the final 2 rounds and helped the Avs win a cup.
