Have you seen Ari Asters “Hereditary”? For me it probably the best horror I’ve seen since The Thing (1982). So good on so many levels. Asters “Midsommar” is also very good, although perhaps more disturbing than scary. Especially the long version.
Haven't seen Hereditary. I did watch Midsommar (and the streaming service had the extended version). Honestly, I was a tad let down, but that was because I had a couple of people talk it up before hand into something so, so, so much more than what it was. I found it fascinating trying to develop horror in the broad daylight like that and from that standpoint alone, it was well worth the watch for me.

John Carpenter's the Thing is just grade A movie making in general, let alone genre. Just re-watched it a couple of months ago with the wife. She hadn't seen it before and loved it. And honestly for me, I don't mind that the practicle special effects have aged. I'd rather see effort put into good practicle effects like that, than watching obvious cgi blobs bounce around. Needless to say, we did not make it very far into the remake afterwards. My wife was like, why'd we even give it the 15 minute rule when we loved the original. There was no way anyone could improve upon it.

The remake should be deleted from existence lol.

How about giving the crest the respect it deserves and moving his f***in feet.

If he'd have continued to be able to pace Mack on or off his line I bet they'd have gave him 12.6M.

Alas he did not. I'm actually inclined to believe the idea they really didn't want to give him even 11.75. I didn't want to.
I've always flip-flopped back and forth on Mikko's ultimate importance to our team's success. I've questioned it more the last year rather vocally. It's not that I don't like Mikko... and I know people are going to take this entirely the wrong way, but he reminds me of Duchene in a way. Please hear me out... it's nothing to do with personality AT ALL. I just don't think Duchene was EVER a guy you would actually build your team around. After year three I started viewing him as a premier support player, but not a guy you give top dollar too.

Mikko got PAID out of the gate on his second deal. One of the first UFA's to do that as well. 9.8M on a second contract and I'm remember Hejduk never got above what... 4.5M? However, scoring 100 points a season won me over quickly and he was worth every cent. I also see the logic of paying more for your younger players as the league has changed. But if you are paying your restricted free agents top-dollars you can't also pay your unrestricted free agents top-dollar. Mikko tried to have it both ways with the Avs. This soured me on him. A lot.

What I think will be interesting to know in the future (if we'll ever find out), is that how close the Avs and Mikko were to an extension during last summer. Because apparently they were close, then Draisaitl signed and Mikko's number went up. Was his camp satisfied with something around 11M per during that time? One would assume the Avs certainly weren't offering more than they did now. And if he was, why didn't the deal get done? Which side was still trying to squeeze for more?

In retrospect, that's probably the bigger failing if we end up looking back at this in a few years regretting Mikko is not here, not what the negotiations were in the last few weeks leading to the trade.
Was he, though.gif

Agreed. I'm trying to think if there is a single remake that I actually enjoyed. I think 3:10 to Yuma might be the last one.

Rants is my daughters first/only jersey :(
Honestly, that's not a bad first jersey to have. I hope she comes to that realization at some point soonish.

My first jersey was an Avs Selanne jersey the year after he left because it was cheap on Ebay

Mine was a Marek Svatos jersey.
I love hearing jersey stories. My biggest jersey story is the one I didn't get. I was too damn penny pinching in my mid-late 20s. We visited the Pepsi center and they had a game worn Podein jersey for $375. My wife even told me to get it, but I HATED spending money on myself at the time.

Regret that lost opportunity so much. #25 has been worn by so many of my favorite players for the Avalanche. Podes is probably the funniest of the bunch and the one I first really kinda became a fan of. There was also quite a few players in the Nordiques era before I became a fan that wore it proud to (some bum named Pierre Lacroix wore it from 81-83.) But after they moved the the Avs we've got Rucinksy, Keane, Podes, Stewart, Talbot (washed up unfortunately) and Logan O'Connor. I haven't forgotten anybody. Mikhail didn't deserve it.

As for Svatos.. that's a jersey that I would cherish forever. That guy just filled my heart with his play and effort and try on the ice. It got broke with his passing though and then hearing about how much he'd been personally suffering for so long.

I still have a game worn Zadorov jersey available for only 500$ if anyone still misses him.

First jersey was Forsberg.

I have a Theo Fleury jersey. That and my Ghetto jersey are the short stint players.

Fleury is a jersey I would hang on to.

There is something cool to me about stars that played for a team and nobody remembers it (outside of the team's fanbase). Nobody outside of Avs fans link Teemu or Paul to this ORG. Nobody think Avs when Andreychuk's name comes up. Jari Kurri? Heck even Pierre Turgeon isn't linked to the Avs outside those of us that watched him and Svatos just destroy teams.

Fleury Av's jersey is akin to a Gretzky Blue's jersey but on a lesser scale.

My first jersey was a home Forsberg I got when I was around 11 or 12. I still have it and can fit into it.

I was chubby as **** as a kid so it had to be big enough for me to fit it but I'm in shape now so I didn't outgrow it.

Yeah, it's in the shiny jersey material too. The only difference between the store bought higher end jersey and the on ice is a larger Avs logo. 1995/96 all the way through 1998/99 were the same irrc. So it looks like the original 95/96 jerseys.
