Cody Franson

:help:

He's our best option on the point right now AINEC. If Gardiner makes a leap this year we would have a phenomenal top PP pairing.

Our top PP unit wasn't the problem last season, it was our 2nd PP unit. PP scoring from our blueline last year:

Phaneuf: 16 points
Franson: 13 points
Kostka: 5 points
Gardiner: 2 points (limited # of games + weak regular season)

Pretty big drop-off. I expect Gardiner will solidify that second pairing, giving us a better overall PP.

It's a little OT, but I really thought Gardiner woke something up the last 3-4 games of that Bruins series (can't remember which game he woke up, but it was incredibly obvious I thought). He started looking like the guy that got me all hyped up in the first place. Whatever flip switched, I really hope it stays in the on position for next year, 'cause a Gardiner/Franson pairing that's improving is all kinds of awesome to me.

I knew he was amazing from the start, Wilson and Carlyle are just huge losers...

I'm still sad about Eakins leaving QQ

We'll see just what we missed, or not, when he is behind the bench in Edmonton.

Wilson was a loser with the Leafs. However, he almost won a Gold medal against us in the Olympics.

Carlyle has won a Stanley Cup! Hardly a huge loser!!!

Oops, didn't see "long term."

I'm a big Franson fan, have been since his Nashville days, liked him in 11-12 and had no idea why Wilson wouldn't play him. That said, I think his slightly below average skating will hold him back from being anything more than a #4 guy who specializes on the PP.

True say. :)

Top 4 . When played with another legit top 4 d he looked great ( gardiner ) when he played top 4 minutes with Fraser they were awful. So to conclude, Fraser needs bottom pairing minutes while franson gets top 4 minutes. I've never seen someone get so exposed by speed as Fraser did in the bruins series

Solid top 4.

First PP unit.

Ideal future partner for Gardiner.

He's lacked the support of a coach in Toronto until Carlyle last season.

ONE season with a coach's support = ONE very good season for Franson.

Imagine what he can do moving forward, knowing he's got the support and belief of the coaching staff?

He's apart of the core here, moving forward. No doubt about it.

Agreed. Franson is here to stay in my opinion. Whatever it takes, I want to see this guy signed for a good long time. 5 years if possible.

I don't even care if it costs us Gunnar in the process.

I am not completely sold on him yet, but based on the year he just had and his size, what if he improves? Chara at 25 was 39 points and 1 hit per game. Cody at 25 scored at a 50 point pace and had almost 3 hiits per game. Of course Franson doesn't fight or log the minutes that Chara did yet, but what happens if he has that other gear?

I'm happy with signing anyone that cranks Marchand like he did in game 6.

Definitely top 4 D. He obviously has nice offensive talent, but I think his defensive play is underrated. He's physical, positionally sound most of the time, and is excellent at moving the puck out of the zone with a great first pass, good under pressure. We'd better sign him, I think he could be an excellent defenceman for us for a long time.

I'm kind of indifferent... he's shown flashes of a solid top 4 guy but also showed some lapses defensively. I think he has a shot at being a top 4 guy but I'm not 100% sold on him yet. I hope we sign him to a 2 year deal around $3m or so. Give him a full 82 game season and see if he takes the next step.

Also i don't believe he's a PP quarter back, I think that's Gardiner or Rielly. He's a PP trigger man with an extremely good talent of picking the right shot - whether it be a heavy clapper or soft wrister, it always gets through and that's huge. A quarter back is someone who can skate the puck up the ice, gain the zone, and find the trigger man.

Ive always been a Franson fan and was really disappointed about how he was treated while Wilson was still coaching. I think he is a top 4/top PP guy for sure.

He has an amazing up ice pass, he sets up and moves the puck well on the pp and he gets his wrist and snap shot off so quickly. His shot may not be the hardest but it is very effective and almost always gets to the net.

Franson is a way better passer than Phaneuf and although his shot isnt nearly as hard as Phaneuf's it is way more accurate, has a quicker release and seems to produce better results.

The only knock on Franson's game are his skating and lack of physical play but I feel with his size and reach the lack of speed isn't that big a deal. In regards to his ability to utilize his body, I feel like his has been improving steadily since joining our team and I expect he will continue to do so.

He's a serviceable bottom pairing D who has the bonus of a shot that finds its way through traffic and that is all.
People who have him on the top line or making 4mil on his RFA contract are nuts.

Bottom pairing D don't usually put up 29 points in 45 games and 6 in 7 in the playoffs. He's a solid player and deserves to be in the top 4. He's earned it.

What else does he have to prove? He was one of our better D men last year.

Franson had some big big goals in the playoffs. If those didn't endear him to Leafs I don't know what will. I was impressed and definitely want to keep this guy around!

Because all people remember is Gards and him standing on the ice when Bergeron scored the GWG.

Left and centre is my favorite "hit" from Franson this year, right is why they should re-sign him.

Cody Franson has always been great for us. Always. It boggles my mind how everyone can't see this. I'm not saying he's a #1 or even a bonafide top-pairing guy but he's the type of player a top team would have.

So this.

Franson right now is a legit #3, even if not the best #3 in the league. He's got a booming and generally accurate shot, and is not afraid to shoot it quickly while sacrificing power (something Phaneuf seems to refuse to do). He also hits as noted above and is solid if unspectacular defensively. Remember that it was him and Fraser that shut down Bergeron and Marchant in the first round until Fraser got injured, while Phaneuf and Gunnarsson were getting pwned by Lucic et al. Not saying that Phaneuf and Gunnarsson are bad (they're clearly our 1-2 defensemen), but in the right role, Franson is a reliable force, and I think Carlyle is good enough to put him into that role.

I'll ****en shove a bomb up nonis's ass if he walks Away from franson
