Franson would be a good fit on Edmonton's 3rd pairing with Davidson. I could see them giving up a 3rd for him.

Why would they even want him? A complete sloth that doesn't defend.

Edmonton needs a 3rd pairing, right shooting defender for the PP. Acquired for a 3rd? Not a huge price to pay for a 6th defender with a shot.

I would probably pay up to a 3rd, so we can role Klefbom-Larsson, Sekera-Fayne/Reinhart, Davidson-Franson. With Nurse pushing for a spot.

Given cap is such a commodity, I would prefer to give a 4th or 5th, but it's not that big a difference

feels like a move that is going to happen at somepoint near the start of the season. buffalo probably needs to get their star signed first and then the cost to edmonton...

maybe a 3rd and something conditional based on fransons scoring...

the guy does have talent on the pp and might bounce back

Yeah, I could see that - conditional pick based on performance? His contract fits into Edmonton's structure, and he'd be a 3rd pairing RD.

If Buffalo was looking to move him, I wouldn't be shocked to see him landing in Edmonton.

Ya Franson's definitely an anomaly in today's NHL. The guy has D- skating ability but can use his size and wing span to be an effective defender. He'll get burned to the outside from time to time and have that highlight follow him around for awhile but all in all he's decent defensively. He has an elite RH shot and is as good as anybody at getting shots through from the point. I think if he's used as a 5/6D with PP time he'd be a great fit with the Oilers and well worth a 3rd round pick

Franson would be a good fit, and there does exist some needs for the two teams that could generate a trade. Buffalo could use some more cap space, and Franson's a fairly redundant piece behind Risto and Bogo; Edmonton on the other hand needs a RH pp defenceman that can at least share duties with Larsson.

Also I don't think Franson (while not great) is the tire fire defensively that Wisniewski or (especially) Wideman are, so that's a plus. (Though he's not as good offencively, but at the same time I think the team is going to want to push Larsson into those roles)

I'd offer up up Fernece's insurance papers, but I suppose I'd do a 3rd.

Klefbom-Larsson
Sekera-Fayne
Davidson-Franson

to start the season, I could get behind that... Though I wouldn't be surprised to see that grow into...

Klefbom-Larsson
Davidson-Sekera
Nurse-Franson

... by midseason. Davidson's a more rounded (and likely better) partner for Sekera; and Nurse covers for Franson's mobility issues. Fayne becomes a nice injury insurance policy.

Edmonton doesn't need Franson. Not interested. We have Sekera to shoot on the power play and a plethora who can play bottom pair defenseman as well or better than Franson. No need for this move.

I'd give a left nut to get a 3rd for Franson .

He just can't skate.

Franson would make Edmonton a lot better. He gets really under-appreciated because fans always remember the few big mistakes in a small-sample size (I.e Nashville playoffs, bottom-pairing role). I can tell you that when he was in Toronto on the top-pairing/or 2nd pair with Gardiner, he was fantastic. It's only when you see him for a limited time you think he's garbage, because you only remember the big play.

He's a great #4D.

With Ristolainen needing to be signed, the Sabres are in for an expensive right side on defense. Shouldn't take much to get him IMO. He could be the stop gap the Oilers are looking for.

The shinpad assassin shouldn't be our shot on the pp.

He absolutely should be. He has a cannon. The issue is that his shot was basically our only option last year so it became predictable. With Lucic causing havoc down low, and McDavid dangling and Eberle's hands in tight, Sekera should have more time and more options than just banging the puck through guys shin pads. Franson isn't the answer. He is awful.

If he was paid around 2 million he'd be worth a 3rd. Not worth it at 3+ million IMO
