Reinhart looked good enough down the stretch for us to see the potential there. We arent shipping him out, and especially not for the suck pile that is Cody Franson

Of course he did.

Reinhart would be lucky to get anywhere close to as good as Franson is.

He's peak value is a 2nd round pick to a playoff contender at the trade deadline. Otherwise, he's not worth much.

 That's a good joke!

Oh, you're serious? :shakehead

I would hope he's not serious. Edmonton has moved far away from the joke they've been the past 6 or so years.

He's be a great 6/7 guy when a team is going into contention. He just doesn't do defense well... which is kind of his thing.

He is a bottom pairing defenceman who does not skate well or great defensively. His biggest knock is that he has a great big frame but does not use it enough. During the leafs only trip to the playoffs in the last decade he was a hitting machine, unfortunately that was just aberration. On the up side he is a great PP specialist who has a shot with eyes on it.

If Edm needs a player who can play the point with a decent shot that finds the net then he can likely be had for cheap but he needs to be paired with a strong defensive partner who can move the puck.

And in recent year's he still would never be our best RD

I don't like these little digs at Oiler fans . Not sure how fans of other teams get away with them . However we did have Schultz on the top pairing as recent as last year so I would say Franson is on the same level maybe even a little better . Having said that Chia is not MacT he is not going to settle for a bad D as can be seen by his Hall trade . Right now I see 4 of our D being way better then Franson . Larsson , Klefbom , Sekera and Davidson . Davidson is still a question mark as it was too short of a sample size to hang our hopes on him . Then there Nurse , Reinhart and Fayne . Fayne was out of shape last year and by all indication he has been working out real hard this year so he should be much better . Nurse and Reinhart could be better if they take a step forward in their development but there are no guarantees with players . So basically I see Franson as a number 5 on the Oilers right now with an outside chance he could become a number 8 if the above mention players improved as mention .

On a side note we have no D that is proven to be a point produces like Franson . I would offer a 3rd and Ference for him . Ference goes on LTIR so it save Buffalo that money and they get a 3rd . Edmonton keeps their 8.3 million in cap space they have so they can add at the trade deadline if they look like a playoff team or if a better D becomes available

Just wondering if he is available and if so what would the ask from Buffalo be?

You don't want him. He's lost a step. He was very sheltered and excelled in Toronto for that reason...
He's not very good on buffalo

Very little of this is true based on how he played with the Sabres. He hits; he's just incredibly dumb about when and how he does it. If he coughs up the puck at the offensive blue line, he'd rather go out of position to make a retaliation hit and give up an odd-man rush than drop back like any defender with half a brain would. He's also very soft in other areas. He doesn't really do anything for the PP. OK wrister, not much else of use.

Franson is useless in today's NHL. Maybe if you can protect him on the third pairing, but why does Edmonton need another defenseman to put on the third pairing where he can't **** anything up too badly? That doesn't make any sense.

The guy just doesn't have the wheels to be effective. Before Nashville brought him back during an ill-fated TDL season, Preds fans had been told by some within the Maple Leafs fandom that he was a solid second pairing guy. I was hopeful that he would make an already good defense even better. He didn't. Not only did he make the defense worse, but he made the team itself worse. I wouldn't give up a 7th round pick for the guy if it were up to me.

His only saving grace is that his shot seems to have eyes, but even that isn't enough to begin to make up for his weaknesses. He has size, too, but he has no mobility so in order to use his size he has to be in the right place at the right time. He doesn't have the vision or IQ to put himself in those places. Instead, he forces it and winds up out of position. Franson is who you get if you want to see how good your goalie is against odd-man rushes, or maybe if you just hate your goalie and want him to waive his NMC.
